Hello, my name is Adriana and I am a second year Biochemistry student and the current Media and Communications Secretary for the Gymnastics Society. Gymnastics is a sport which I have been practising since a very young age and have continued at university due to my rekindled love for the sport.

This year I am running for Women’s Captain. I would like to continue to create a very welcoming atmosphere to the Society during training and especially in competitions!!!

The reasons why I should be your choice:

Goals, aims and skills:

Work towards the creation of a comfortable environment for gymnasts who are new to competing in university and make sure they have a good support system. I have attended all competitions this year and enjoy supporting others on the competition floor.

Work with the Men’s Captain and Training Secretary to ensure a safe and welcoming training environment.

Introduction of a strength and conditioning training session through the union taking into consideration numbers and budgeting. This is an important part of gymnastics and an important goal for me as it will ensure less injuries within the Society. Already, I have ascertained that this is a key interest for many members (once affordable).

More organised schedule template for cars and competition schedules. Prior committee experience allows for me to understand the level of organization needed for competitions and the introduction of a more organized template would be easier for the committee and more understandable for members.

Better data collection system for competition sign ups. Eg. Forms to collate the data on an excel spreadsheet for easier registration.

I have been doing gymnastics for a total of 9 years which has allowed me to develop a greater understanding of WAG rules and skills.

Greater understanding of the WAG code of points. Properly explain and check if routines meet the requirements. Additionally, I enjoy filling out score sheets for gymnasts!!

I have attended all competitions this year and enjoyed supporting others on the competition floor.

Before coming to university, I assisted my old gym with the hosting of competitions, participating in setup, walking around with athletes and ensuring that everyone had a comfortable experience.

For major competitions such as BUCS, I would like to ensure that all gymnasts feel comfortable and less anxious in a high stress environment, having my own stressful experience at BUCS made me more aware of how others may be feeling at the larger competitions.

I hope you consider me for the next Women’s Competition Captain, as I would love to share the great experiences of this Society with the rest of the members and bring a safer and more inclusive environment.

I’m Amy, a first year Psychology student and I would love the chance to be your next Women’s Competition Captain for our gymnastics society!

Being part of the gymnastics society has made my uni experience amazing, where I’ve made great friends and re-discovered my love for competing. I’ve been involved in gymnastics for over 10 years, first competing and then travelled around the UK being a member of a display team. I started as a volunteer coach, became qualified two years ago, and also earning my BG judging qualification. I currently work at my local gymnastics club and since joining uni also working at Leeds Gymnastics club.

From the very start of uni I have been dedicated to the society and next year I will attend all competitions (this year I only missed BUCS due to already having judging commitments – this won’t happen next year, and I was unfortunately ill for Christie Cup!).

I have a very strong understanding of the sport and how competitions are run, and I’d love to bring that knowledge to a committee role. I’m very organised through planning fun gymnastics sessions and creating new routines previously, which is a skill I would bring to this role. My role at Leeds Gymnastics club this gives me great connections and experience that will help with organising and coordinating competitions. Coaching has built my and next year I will support members to feel positive, prepared and confident both in training and at competitions.

I have proven myself for this role, by helping the society last year by judging twice at UGC competitions, and I absolutely loved it. One of my favourite things about judging is how it’s trained my eye for detail. To help gymnasts refine their routines and find those little things that will boost their scores.

I’m trained in safeguarding and passionate in creating a supportive, inclusive and a positive fun environment.

As well, I have volunteered for British Gymnastics for 6 years as part of the medal presentation team, attending major events including British and World Championships.

One of my favourite memories from the society is the long competition days due to the fantastic team spirit. Everyone is so supportive and makes the days enjoyable even during the early starts!
I will ensure competitions are ran smoothly, entries submitted early and ensure there is clear communication throughout. I’ll also work with the committee and social media to celebrate our successes and to keep the excitement going.
