I'm Alaa, a first-year student majoring in Accounting and Finance, which is why I nominate myself to be the treasurer!
I have been debating for 6 years in school, and now that I am in college, I am willing to be a part of the debate team while integrating in my career.

Hi, my name is James. I’m a first-year Economics student and I am hoping to become your Debating Union Treasurer. I first experienced the debating union at the give it a go session back in October, and enjoyed it so much it quickly became a major part of my university experience. I have since gone almost every week and have loved the breadth of topics to debate, and the sometimes wild direction a debate can travel in! I believe I am the best person for the job for many reasons. I am very organised and focused. I also take pride in always working well within a team; I have great communication skills and am a very cooperative person. Finally, having previously been a deputy head boy I have significant experience in organising, coordinating and financing many events. From this I have a clear insight into how best to budget and handle money, to prevent any financial constraints facing the society next year.

If you elect me as your Treasurer, I will:
1)Ensure the societies finances are managed efficiently and effectively.
2)Explore and make use of all sources of financing available to the debating union, to help keep fees as low as possible for all society members.
3)Ensure any fees due from members of the society are easily visible and easy to pay.
4)Work closely with other committee members to ensure all events can run as smoothly as possible.

Hello, I am a First Year Environmental Science student running for the position of the Debating Union's Treasurer. Why should I manage the money of our society? Naturally, I am efficient with money: I save, budget and do not overspend. This will make sure our society does not end up in financial problems and that you will be able to do the things you want, as I will carry forth these qualities into this role. I have a track record of sticking to deadlines, being an organised person. What does this mean for you? I will complete my work as a treasurer well in time, making life easier for you: always looking at how best the society's money can be used such as in the financing of events and taking part in competitions. As per my opinion, my ability to work and communicate well in teams will be valuable for this role. I will be able to liaise effectively with the Social Secretary, Event Organiser and Competitions Officer (and all the committee members) to come to decisions that will allow the society's money to be spent in an enriching manner. I would also be a great addition to your committee, being the vibrant and positive person that I am. In terms of my own experience with debate, I first took part in debating in Year 9, having represented my high school in a competition once. After this I did not debate again until I came to university where I thought debating would be a great activity to be involved in for this period of my life. Having attended most casual sessions and some competitive sessions, I have enjoyed the chance to listen to people speaking at length about different topics, share my own developed viewpoints with everyone and think that the activity is a great way to help people open up and even support their own studies. As a member of the committee, I want that other and future members get this same feeling. To add to this, having been the Deputy Head Boy at my high school, I have experience of being in decision making roles for large groups of people. Otherwise I also work part time in retail and as a Geography and Maths Tutor. Vote me for Treasurer and you will not be disappointed!
