Hi GeogSoc, I’m Harriet and I’m a first year BSc geography student. I want to be your careers and wellbeing officer because I love talking to people and I want everyone in GeogSoc to feel included so we can all enjoy ourselves and have fun!

I have loved my time at uni so far, particularly through getting involved with so many societies (which you can see in my poster). These societies have allowed me to form great friendships and experience nights out with many different people who I would not have interacted with otherwise, and I want everyone else to experience this feeling too.

In sixth form I was the eco lead ambassador and received mind mental health training to help younger students deal with the day to day stresses of lower school and to be a friendly face they can talk to. I also was the first person in my school to set up an eco club, within this role I got in touch with many people with a geography background to network and ask them to give talks at our school to inspire young minds. This should hopefully display my great initiative skills and desire to help others.

I believe GeogSoc should primarily be a place to socialise, relax and enjoy ourselves and I would be more than happy to speak to people about ways to make our society more inclusive so everyone feels welcome. For GeogSoc in the future I want to make it easier for students to learn about future careers in all years, not just 2nd and 3rd through activities such as careers fairs, talks and discussions with personal tutors.
