Hi everyone,

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Katie Young, and I’m running for Treasurer of Medics and Dentists Tennis.

Over the past two years, I’ve been your Kit Secretary, and in that role I’ve worked hard to improve what we offer as a club. I’ve redesigned our fleeces, introduced a full range of Canterbury kit including tops, polos and skorts, and created both committee tops (club funded) and the Shock Absorbers.

One of my main goals is to secure more funding and use it effectively to subsidise tennis sessions. We all know that cost can be a barrier, especially with court bookings, coaching, and socials adding up. I want to make tennis more accessible so that more people can get involved regularly, whether they’re beginners or competitive players.
Alongside that, I’d like to expand our charity efforts. I’d work to organise charity tournaments, fundraising events, and collaborations with other societies, not just to raise money, but to build a stronger sense of community within the club.

Another focus of mine would be reinvesting in the club experience whether that’s better equipment, more structured sessions, or supporting competitive teams with things like travel or entry fees.

This year, I’ve also been injured, which has meant I haven’t been able to play as much as I’d like. That’s given me a different perspective on the club, and it’s really motivated me to make sure we’re offering more than just tennis. I want to help organise and subsidise non-tennis activities and socials, so that people who are injured, new, or just can’t always attend sessions still feel included and part of the society.

I’d also love to introduce more sober socials and welfare-focused events, and work with the union to help fund these. I think this would make the society even more inclusive — a space where people can not only play sport, but also make friends, relax, and take a break from the intensity of our degrees and placements.
Ultimately, I’m someone who’s already invested time and effort into this society, and I care about seeing it grow. I’ve shown through my role as Kit Sec that I can take initiative, follow through on ideas, and deliver something tangible for members.

As Treasurer, I’d bring that same energy and organisation to managing the club’s finances making sure we’re not just maintaining what we have, but actively improving it.
