When I stepped up as president of LUU Midwifery Society last year, it was on a complete whim. I had no experience running a society, but I knew I wanted to make a difference and create something meaningful for student midwives. Looking back, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at university. I threw myself into the role, learning as I went, and worked closely with our committee to turn MidSoc into a thriving, supportive, and inclusive community.

One of the things I have loved most about this role is bringing people together. I have worked hard to strengthen inter-society collaborations, from teaming up with the BSL Society to promote inclusivity in healthcare to working alongside other student groups to create events that celebrate diversity and connection. These partnerships have helped foster a welcoming space within MidSoc, ensuring that every student midwife, regardless of background, feels represented and supported.

Wellbeing has also been a huge focus for me. I know how overwhelming this journey can be, and I have made it a priority to introduce social events that provide a break from the demands of placement and study. Whether it is casual meet-ups or plans for a more structured event, I have wanted to create opportunities for students to step away from stress, have fun, and build friendships that will carry them through their careers. I have also been dedicated to making sure our members’ voices are heard, actively taking on feedback to shape events like the Summer Ball so that it reflects what students actually want.

Taking on this role with no prior experience was a risk, but it has been worth every moment. I have grown so much as a person, and seeing the impact MidSoc has had on students has made all the hard work worthwhile. I would love the opportunity to keep building on everything we have achieved and continue leading this society for another year. If re-elected, I will keep making MidSoc a strong, welcoming, and inclusive space for every student midwife.
