Hi everyone! My name is Harry and I would love to be president of tennis society for 2024-25. I am currently in Ontario, Canada on a year abroad but have had great experience in the tennis society as well as on the committee. In my second year I was match secretary where I helped to organise trainings and matches for both performance and development squads each week. On top of this, I worked closely with the former president, Bailey Cole, on a range of issues such as finances of the society in order to learn about how it runs. As president I will look to take an inclusive and dynamic approach to how things are run. Making sure socials are fun and with good turnout is a high priority for me as it is the main place where the society can come together as one. Furthermore, I will look to organise additional events for everyone in the society. Those who remember the friendly match against Sheffield last year that I helped to organise know how fun it was and I want to look to do things like that for both performance as well as the other groups. There has even been talk of the team of my current university in Canada coming over for a trip! I am approachable and I also prioritise feedback from not just my committee but everyone who feels that they want their voice to be heard so please feel free to always ask me questions any time. Hi, my name is Alanna. I am a medical sciences student currently on a placement year. Some of you may remember me from hosting several “Wednesday Nights”, or my Advanced coaching sessions in Hyde Park. I have already met some new faces during my visits to Leeds this year and look forward to getting to know even more of you next year. I have been consistently present and involved in the society from playing BUCS to attending most socials. Because of this I have won “Most Committed Player” two years running and received a “Gryphons Club Colour Award” at last year’s Awards.

Even during my year out, I have still been present in the world of Uni tennis. Just a couple of weekends ago I went to support a couple of our players at BUCS Individuals and attended BUCS super weekend in Loughborough. These experiences have exposed me to different university’s tennis programs. One major difference I noticed was that we lack focus on strength and conditioning, which is essential to preventing sports related injuries. This is available through The Edge, as president I would apply and deliver this.

The University of Leeds tennis society of course expands far beyond our BUCS players. Thanks to Amber our society has a staggering 449 amazing members. This is a place for meeting people as well as just playing tennis. As president I will reach out to you to hear your ideas to make this more part of our society, through our social media as well as occasional feedback surveys. I also intend to keep volunteering my services as a weekend coach, where I am more than happy to take feedback in person!

I have energy, lots more ideas and I would love the opportunity to be president of UOL Tennis! 😊

Hi I am Joel and I am hoping to be one of your Social secretaries next year.

I can honestly say that I have made some of my best friends and had some of my best times throughout the year’s tennis socials and hope that as a social secretary I could help others also experience this.

My vision is for for a more inclusive social scene which allows more members to enjoy tennis socials as much as I have. With the Tennis society being one of the largest at The University Of Leeds, it offers a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends and I feel at the moment that tennis socials could be improved to allow this to happen.

This could be achieved by a more diverse array of socials and even multiple socials a week, introducing ideas which don’t necessarily revolve around drinking! (Although there will still be plenty of that don’t worry.)

Wether you’re a BUCS player hoping to beat the Beckett scum or a beginner looking to start playing, you will have a great time at our tennis socials next year if I’m involved!
