1. As a first-year student, I understand your academic struggles and will be your voice and connection on campus.
2. I will bridge students and staff, improve course feedback channels, and enrich our faculty community activities.
3. With practical actions, I will make every voice heard and create a better experience for Arts & Humanities students.
I. My Motivation
I am Tongyu Zhou, a first-year student studying Graphic and Communication Design. Having experienced the academic and social challenges of adjusting to university life as a new student, I want to serve as an Engagement Leader, speak up for students in our faculty, and build stronger connections—living out LUU’s values of inclusivity and empowerment.
While settling into university classes and early campus communities, I have enjoyed the academic atmosphere of the Arts & Humanities Faculty, but also noticed gaps in course feedback and cross-major communication. This has strengthened my desire to work for positive change within our community.
Through participating in faculty introductory events and campus volunteer groups, I have developed my communication and organisational skills, learned to listen to diverse student needs, and gained experience in connecting students and staff.
II. Core Campaign: Improving Campus Experience
1. Enhancing Academic Experience
Improve course and faculty feedback channels: help streamline faculty-level feedback processes so that students’ needs regarding assignments, timetables and resources are efficiently communicated to the Faculty Board.
Support course representatives: collaborate with course reps from all majors, organise small discussion sessions, collect academic concerns, and connect students with tutors in a timely manner.
2. Building Community Connections
Create unique faculty community activities: organise cross-major exchanges and academic experience-sharing sessions to bring together first-years, returning students, and students from different programmes.
Promote faculty academic societies: work with faculty-level academic societies, improve event promotion, and encourage more students to join, enriching both academic and social life.
3. Amplifying Student Voice
Regularly collect student concerns: gather key needs from Arts & Humanities students through LUU Better Forums, small in-person discussions and other channels.
Fulfill faculty representative duties: attend meetings such as the Faculty Board, authentically represent the student perspective, and push for practical solutions.
III. My Vision if Elected
Short-term: Quickly learn the role, establish a student network within the faculty, launch 1–2 small community events in the first semester, and set up a regular feedback system.
Long-term: Ensure every student in Arts & Humanities feels valued, improve communication between students and staff, strengthen faculty unity, and become a reliable link between LUU and our students.
Personal commitment: Carry out every task responsibly and practically, share regular progress updates with students, and stay fully accountable to the student body.
IV. My Pledge
As a first-year student, I bring enthusiasm, energy, and a deep understanding of my peers’ needs. I have strong communication, organisational and empathetic skills, allowing me to adapt quickly and deliver real results.
I will strictly follow the responsibilities of an LUU Faculty Engagement Leader: coordinate course representatives, attend Faculty Board meetings, submit bi-monthly reports, and build a strong faculty community—all for every student in the Arts, Humanities & Culture Faculty.
I sincerely ask for your vote. I will keep my promises with real action and be a trustworthy Faculty Engagement Leader. Together, let’s build a better campus experience for everyone in Arts & Humanities.
