I’m standing to represent students in EPS as the Faculty Engagement Officer. I’ve seen first-hand how much student life is shaped by support, community, and the spaces we share. Being a commuter and lacking support in academics, I know how confusing and overwhelming university can sometimes feel. I want to make things easier for students like us.

My best experiences at Leeds have come from working across different teams and societies, from hosting competitions to outreach. These experiences showed me how powerful collaboration is, and how much we gain when students from different schools connect, share ideas, and support each other.

If elected, I will focus on three areas that students consistently say matter most:

1. A Campus for Commuters: fairer timetables, pushing for more commuter friendly society socials, and support when commuting during exam season.

2. Interdisciplinary Community in EPS: more crossfaculty socials, academic collaboration, and competitions that encourage working together with different disciplines.

3. Academic & Financial Support: clearer signposting, guides for academic writing for coursework in each school, and financial support for commuters.

My involvement across societies, engineering projects, and outreach has helped me understand how different students experience Leeds. I’ve worked with students from many backgrounds, and I’ve seen how good communication and inclusive planning can make a difference.

I will ensure that students feel supported, connected, and confident navigating university life no matter their background, schedule, or personal circumstances. I will work to improve your academic experience, strengthen our community, and make your time at Leeds a little less stressful! 

Hi, I’m Emma Li — your candidate for Faculty Engagement Leader for Engineering & Physical Sciences.

Studying in EPS is challenging but rewarding. Many students experience heavy workloads, unclear feedback, and uncertainty about career opportunities after graduation. I’m running because I believe our faculty can do more to support students academically and professionally.

If elected, I will focus on three key priorities:

Improving Workload Balance

• Work with Course Reps to collect feedback on workload and deadlines
• Raise concerns about assessment clustering in faculty discussions
• Advocate for healthier study rhythms and better balance during term

Clearer Feedback and Better Learning Platforms

• Push for clearer marking criteria and more consistent feedback
• Improve communication between staff and students about expectations
• Support improvements to digital learning platforms and resources

Stronger Career and Industry Opportunities

• Promote more industry talks, networking events, and career workshops
• Work with academic societies to connect students with employers
• Encourage more internship and placement opportunities for EPS students

As Faculty Engagement Leader, I will work closely with students, Course Reps, societies, and faculty staff to ensure student feedback leads to real improvements.
