Hi, I’m Talia, a fourth-year medical student at Leeds. I’m excited to apply for the role of 4th Year Rep for the Paediatric Society.

I’ve always had a strong interest in working with children. Growing up surrounded by younger cousins and looking after them from an early age sparked my passion for paediatrics. I’ve built on this through a range of experiences, including volunteering in my school’s reception class, coaching at netball and lacrosse camps, and working as a camp counsellor at Camp America. These roles have helped me develop strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills—all essential when working with children and families.

Throughout my clinical placements this year, I’ve especially enjoyed the paediatric elements, whether in GP settings or clinics. These experiences have confirmed my enthusiasm for the specialty, and I’m really looking forward to diving deeper into it during my upcoming paediatrics rotation.

Outside of university I work as a bar manager meaning good organisation, effective communication and team work is paramount. I hope to transfer these skills over to work with the rest of the committee.

I’m also eager to become a more active member of the Paediatric Society. I admire the range of opportunities the society offers and would love to contribute by representing the 4th year cohort—helping to keep students informed, engaged, and supported. Thank you for considering my application!

My name is Aminah and I would love to be the 4th year rep for LUMPs. I am passionate about paediatrics and have the strong organisational skills required for this role, alongside a genuine commitment to ensuring the society will run exciting and useful academic and social events.

Over the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to attend a lot of the society events and have gained an understanding of what members would like out of the society. I’m confident that I will be able to effectively bridge the gap between the committee and my fellow fourth-year students, ensuring that everyone receives all the important information about events and planned teaching sessions.

I’m also really keen about promoting paediatric education and engagement through initiatives and events that LUMPs provides for students at the University of Leeds. I’m eager to help out with event planning, collaborating with my peers and society members to organise activities that cater to the interests of our year group.

I would be both excited and honoured to be a part of the committee and hope to see the society grow more in the next year.
