Very tricky running for recruitment secretary against the bloke who recruited you.

That aside, this sport has completely consumed my life these past 6(~) months. I have played many sports and there is truly nothing like American Football. It has ruthlessly exposed my weaknesses and motivated me to improve my physical condition more than anything I’ve experienced - apart from teenage heartbreak.

I have been made aware of the importance of recruitment for next year and it is something I want to actively contribute to. Growing our team and the sport in general really spurs my interests. At times this year, I even found myself telling the mischief smoking area how athletic it is. Having played a number of sports during my years at Leeds I think I have some foundational connections that will facilitate the process. Additionally, I am more than happy to flirt with rugby players to achieve the recruitment goals.

Cam kindly reminded me to submit my candidacy for this position on this ultimate nychthemeron of nominations for ‘competition’. As anyone who has read our statements can attest, there is no competition here. I am the only reasonable choice. One of the biggest factors in recruitment is communication and you have to be understood… donchyala? As for Yousaf, I smell ChatGPT all over that statement.

Jokes aside, I’m sure both me, Cam, and Yousaf will be working to grow the team regardless of who is officially voted in. It’s going to be a big shift that will need as many of us involved as possible and I think I can spearhead the thing.

This year, I have brought 2 key players into the team, Chris and Matt (yes this was in the smoking areas of mischief and popworld) showing my capabilities of the ‘yap’

Securing a prominent presence at the Freshers' Fair, both in September and January, is a priority. I understand the strategic placement of our stall and team members around campus is crucial for maximizing exposure. My organizational skills and attention to detail will ensure we present a united, enthusiastic front that attracts potential new members.

In my approach to recruitment, I place a special emphasis on looking for anyone who may fit what the team needs while connecting with students, recognizing the diverse perspectives and talents they bring to the Leeds Gryphons. My strategy involves crafting targeted communications and hosting events that resonate with students from various cultural backgrounds, making it clear that our team is not just a sports club, but a family. This inclusivity is pivotal, as it not only enriches our team's culture but also ensures everyone feels welcomed and valued as many students such as myself may also be from other countries. My previous success in drawing people into trying out for the team stems from this personalized approach. By genuinely engaging with individuals, understanding their interests, and highlighting aspects of the game that align with their experiences or aspirations, I've been able to pique curiosity and encourage participation. This method has proven effective, not just in increasing our numbers, but in building a more cohesive, diverse, and dynamic team.

The Rookie Day represents a significant opportunity not only for recruitment but also for building lasting connections. By working closely with coaches, committee members, and our team I aim to create an inclusive, enjoyable experience for newcomers, making it clear that our team is not just about the sport but also about community and support.

As the primary point of contact for interested players, my goal is to be an accessible, friendly, and informative ambassador for our society. I recognize the importance of maintaining this openness beyond Freshers' Week, ensuring that potential members always have a pathway to join us. With this I can plan to further promote our social media all while regularly making sure closely working with the social media sec that the recruitment posts are being constantly updated. Furthermore, I will ensure to personally reach out to individuals who have expressed interest in joining, whether through social media inquiries, at recruitment fairs, or during Rookie Day. A personalized message can make a big difference in making someone feel welcomed.

The impact of recruitment on our society's future on and off the field, is profound. Drawing on the successful strategies employed by previous recruitment secretaries over the past years, which significantly increased our membership, I am confident in my ability to continue this legacy of growth. It is crucial that we sustain, if not exceed, past recruitment levels to ensure our society's vitality and success in the coming years.
