I have decided to run for president for the 2024/25 season. Having been a part of this team for the last two years and watched the committee from the sidelines, I decided that this year I would like to give something back. Over those two years, I have watched two presidents do fantastic work for this club and I want to be the person to continue that work into the next year. Though I am aware of my lack of committee experience, I firmly believe that my dedication, organisation, and leadership skills will more than make up for it.
There are many transferable skills I have learnt from my year in industry, including adaptive working, and dependability. But one thing that stuck out is the need for feedback and continuous improvement to evolve an organisation. As previously mentioned, the last two years with this team has been everything I could have wanted, but I’m also aware that my opinion is not the only one that matters. I would like to set up a route that is always open for feedback, to grow the society and allow everyone to shape our events.
I know there is uncertainty surrounding the creation of a national premiership, which would make next season harder than most of us have ever faced. Because of this, I believe we need to have two major priorities for the year, a great recruitment, and an even better team culture. I would put money on the fact that we already have the best team comradery of any team in Uniball. I may not be one of the more sociable Gryphons, but I fully appreciate the value that socials and team building activities bring to a team. In order to maintain this, I will fully support the social secretaries in their efforts to carry this into the future. I feel that the best way to maintain a good recruitment will be to set ourselves apart from other societies as the most professional looking team on campus. By introducing things like a media day, an increased social media presence and more, it would not only make us look great but should be good fun.
