I am a second year Politics, Philosophy and Economics student from Germany. When I first came to Leeds in September 2020 during the hights of Covid, starting uni and getting used to all of the responsibilities of living alone in a different country was really overwhelming. I didn’t know about the Mentor Scheme then, but I wish I had. I want to take this opportunity to give as many first-year students the guidance that I wish I had. Even if it’s only getting a coffee and being told you are doing great and that it’s okay to struggle; to me it always made a difference hearing that I was not alone. I am hoping to bring support and a sense of community to the students. No one should feel alone when starting uni … especially not when WILS is just around the corner. I would love to bring in different workshops with focus on well-being as well as academia and career advice. If I have learned anything from my past year in WILS then it’s that everyone will choose a different path in life but we all deserve to get the support that we need to achieve our goals. I’m hoping that by being Mentor Scheme Director I can do exactly that.
