Hi everyone! I’m Giuliana and I am currently in my first year of Cultural and Media Studies. I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I am very passionate about the arts, media, and culture. I believe that the present corporate world tends to disregard disciplines within the arts and humanities, however, Women In Leadership is the ideal space to explore the endless options in the different fields. As an international student, I strongly believe diversity and inclusivity is of uttermost important, especially for a well-functioning and modern work environment. I would be a pleasure to be an active member of the society to help those who wish to progress in their career. I have gained experience previous in my high school years in organizing events and projects for my peers and NGO’s. I took part in a project for teenagers in disadvantage schools where, on a weekly basis, we would talk about female empowerment. One of the aims was to present new ideas about women in leadership and engage in discussions about females different aspects of life. This project is a great foundation before becoming your Arts and Humanities director as it aligns with the society’s main beliefs. I intend to bring in more local organizations to support students, but also leaders and organizations from different parts of the world as a way to promote inclusivity and show a wider range of possibilities. Also, I want to organize events with professionals and industries to help arts and humanities students to network, gain experience and receive advice from professionals in the area. Another aim is to arrange events with related societies to encourage a greater exchange between students and for the society to reach a wider public. Hello everyone! I am Lavender, a first-year Journalism student who is passionate about media, culture, and humanities. As an international student from Hong Kong, a business-oriented city, I truly understand how arts and humanities are undervalued. Engaging in a society that values more on science and business, I wish to promote and emphasize the significance of the arts. Therefore, I aim to be the arts and humanities director to promote arts-based events and provide support to students who wish to pursue their interests in the arts and humanities field. I believe Women in leadership provides a diverse and inclusive hub where students in the arts and humanities field can engage in related activities and communicate ideas freely. I am experienced in organizing events and communicating with different people. Having joined a service trip to QingYuan, a remote city in China, I have gained the skill to plan thoroughly and implement different events under a lot of uncertainties. I directed a two-week arts session with art-jamming and cultural exchange activities for the disadvantaged students. A mission trip to serve sexually abused girls also made me aware of the boundaries when dealing with sensitive issues and made me realise the importance of women empowering women. I wish to hold an International women's buffet inviting empowered women around the world to share their experiences of engaging in the arts field. Also, I would like to arrange a mural painting displaying the power of women in different aspects on the campus. I hope to organize more events like arts movie screenings with a sharing afterwards so to reach out to more people outside the society. I wish to offer my creativity, sensitivity and commitment as an arts and humanities director.
