Hi, my name is Ipek and I am a first-year student studying International Business and Marketing. I believe that with the help of my group mates we can make this society which has strong values even more prestigious. My goal is to make this society a safe space for women to discuss various topics, as well as to get career advice and take advantage of the experiences of the women that we will organize events with from various backgrounds and walks of life. Organizing events that have speakers from different firms, small businesses etc. from many fields is very important for me. As a woman planning to work in Formula 1, a male-dominated area, I never get to listen to women who work in this area and sadly do not benefit from their experiences. Many women are struggling with the same problem so making sure that we get to listen to as many people as possible is a personal goal of mine. As I love organizing conferences and events, I think that this position would be a great opportunity for me to do the thing I love while also helping women benefit from the events as much as they can.

Hi, I’m Nami and I’m nominating myself to be the next Events Director for the Woman in Leadership Society. Upon joining the university, WILS was one of the first societies I was drawn to, and without a doubt, I knew it was a community I wanted to be a part of. I admire their diverse team and consistent hard work and effort to empower and provide opportunities for countless women at Leeds. I believe that the WILS will be a safe space for me to learn from intelligent and ambitious women and have access to a range of opportunities that will challenge me and enable me to grow as an individual. Despite being occasionally shy, I’ve always enjoyed planning events and projects as well as creating spaces where people can learn and engage with each other, I believe that WILS has the potential to transform its events by including roundtable discussions or speed networking and continue to encourage women to push the boundaries. I aim to create spaces in the WILS where women can come together and thrive, share ideas, gain access to a multitude of opportunities and be the best version of themselves.
