I've had a great time this year repping the new members and getting familiar with the responsibilities of being on committee. This election, I'm running for Publicity and Communications Secretary. In this role, I hope to utilise my graphic design talents and general enthusiasm for Backstage to make cool social media posts, manage the website and of course, send out fun newsletters to everyone!
Since joining university I have become familiar with most of the main social media sites – especially Facebook. Plus, I’ve been learning web design and I’m subscribed to the official BSS YouTube channel which makes me part of a very small club (that I hope to expand).
I love talking to and about this society, and Publicity and Communications would grant me the power to do this every week, over official channels. Which I think would be great.

Hi :) As Publicity and Comms Secretary I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date on all the socials and events taking place so we can all have a great time! In the role I'll use my communication skills to ensure a successful and efficient system to spread information to new and current members over a variety of social media as well as engage and our own website. I think this is the perfect role for me as I am (hopefully) friendly and approachable and always happy to help with any problems or queries.

Hey it’s Asher! The one who mastered the art of chucking Bas the pigeon in Made in Dagenham, and also known as the child of the society. I would describe myself as an out going and open yet awkward person. But don’t let the looks fool you, I am still very approachable and would love to help out a fellow member!

If I’m elected as Publicity and Communications Secretary, I would first of all utilise the Backstage society YouTube channel. There’s so much we can do with the channel, we can create little tutorial videos of different departments or film short vlogs of each shows. For the instagram account, we could do department take overs on the stories in load in or even during the shows to show people what we do (and maybe to share some of that stress, hehe cries in Dagenham…). What we do is so cool and we should definitely take advantage of it to attract more people to join us! Aside from the media, if elected, I will advocate for more membership discounts in shops in the union because we all love some cheap/free stuff.

This year has gave me such an unforgettable experience. I went from just helping out in some small shows and assemblies back in high school and now who would have thought that I get to be a stage and house manager myself! Next year’s gonna be a blast, and I would love to commit more to the society as the Publicity and Communications Secretary!
