Hi, my name is Molly Sharp and I am a 1st year PPE student. Having not studied any of these subjects before, it was pretty daunting starting out at Leeds, as everybody seemed to know so much already. Thank god for the PPE society! It gave me a place to connect with my peers in a safe and social setting, to make friends on my course, and especially to become more comfortable engaging in lectures and seminars. I love this course, and a lot of this is to do with what the PPE society did to welcome me from the start.
I am interested in applying for the role of President because I want to pay forward the wonderful experience I have had, and ensure the society is as fun for future years as it was for me. I am dedicated to making sure this society continues to be a welcoming, educating and fun place for all PPE students.
I’m very humble and hard working, but I believe I would be good for this role as I have been lucky enough to have had experience in running clubs in my 6th form, including co-founding and editing my school’s online newspaper. I like organising things like holidays with my friends and parties, and I’m also a kickass drummer so will be able to keep the rhythm in meetings ;-).
If you vote for me I will definitely continue the social aspects of the society by organising events such as treasure hunts, cooking classes, cocktail mixing, etc… but also I think we could elevate the society with opportunities for interesting speakers to come and share their experiences, and give us a chance to ask them questions.
Overall, PPE society has continually been a place where I can learn and meet friends, and if elected I will strive to ensure it remains a fun and engaging way to socialise outside of university work (because, let’s be honest, we could all use a pint sometimes).
