Hello, My name is Radiyat Balogun (She/Her) and I'm applying for the position of President of the Leeds Black Feminist Society because I believe that Black women and non-binary individuals should have a safe space whereby we can speak freely without fear of judgement, harrasment nd where we can feel supported and seen. At a predominantly white institution, It can sometimes feel like we are alone. It can sometimes feel hard to relate with others due to to a lack of shared experiences.

I want this to change. I believe that by creating a sense of community within our university, other universities black female societies and our wider society we can advocate for change, converse and share expereinces to reduce these feelings of loneliness. We can also improve our proffesional connections, through talks, activism and educational content and show that Black woman can achieve great things and thrive in places where we may not normally be expected to be seen.

I would also like to see us to have fun and be celebrated for what we achieve. It can sometimes feel like we have someting to prove, that we have people to prove wrong, and remain strong. However, this alone can also be tiring. I would like us to have a space where we can relax and chat such as bowling, sip and paint, kareoke, jewellrey painting and even more cultural activities such as traditional african music, sewing or braiding lessons. I would like to foster a community whereby we can see eachothr on campus and feel comfortable to speak and catch up with one another.

To achieve this, I will remain approachable for any questions any member or non-member may have. I will push for better communcation between commite members as leadership can only be achieved through collaboration to create better events. I will also continue to create bridges between staff and students via the schemes I partake in to pass on what students are feeling and what they do/don't want to see on campus.

Hi, my name is Morin, and I’m running for president to create a safe, empowering space where Black women and non-binary individuals are not just heard, but celebrated.
My vision is to build a community of Black sisterhood rooted in healing, learning, and joy. A place where we can discuss everything from activism to culture, from beauty to burnout, and uplift each other as we grow.
I want to especially support newly rooted feminists by creating opportunities to learn from peers and share our journeys in a judgment-free space.
As president, I’ll focus on honouring all parts of our identity, starting with our hair. We will host haircare workshops, panel discussions on Eurocentric beauty standards, and create spaces where the history and pride in our hair can be openly celebrated.
