Hi everybody! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Marena. This is my 2nd year as a LSSC member and hopefully my 1st on the committee as Portfolio Manager.

I’m studying Sustainability and Environmental Management, and I plan to become a sustainability consultant. for an environmental nonprofit. I’ve been building my consultancy and leadership resume since high school.

In high school I
- Made a sustainable waste management plan for a neighbourhood
- Made a sustainable water management plan for a coastal city
- Presented those plans to city council members and environmental organisation experts

During my 1st year I worked on the
- Norlo (small fashion brand) project
- Herd Farm (recreation dock) project

I also have experience being a club founder and president where I
- Recruited over 20 active members within the first year
- Organized meetings, community service, and socials
- Led meeting discussions
- Sent out updates and reminders
- Handled member suggestions
- Liaised with the club sponsor and school admin

My goals as LSSC Portfolio Manager would be to
- Help the Director ensure coordination between all aspects of LSSC
- Connect with new project hosts who have never seriously considered sustainability
- Keep project teams organised, informed, and on track

I am excited to apply for the Portfolio Manager position at LSSC, eager to enhance my project management and organization skills while giving back to the Leeds community. With three years of experience in communications roles at multinational companies in Spain, I’ve seen how large organizations can positively influence local communities, and I understand the challenges smaller businesses face in accessing similar opportunities. In this role, I look forward to working alongside the Outreach Manager to bridge that gap by fostering partnerships between LSSC, the university, and local businesses to drive sustainability initiatives and deliver innovative, effective solutions.

Beyond the professional growth this role offers, I’m enthusiastic about collaborating with like-minded peers from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. This experience will not only broaden my perspective and cultural awareness but also support my long-term goal of pursuing a career in CSR consultancy, where I can apply these valuable insights and skills. I am confident that my communications experience, combined with the knowledge I am gaining from my master’s in Marketing, Corporate Communications, and PR, and my passion for sustainability, will enable me to further LSSC's mission and create lasting, positive change.

Hi I’m Joe and I’m excited to express my candidacy for the Portfolio Manager role on the Committee. As a current MSc student in Sustainability and Consultancy I am eager to apply the skills gained from my course to help our society support sustainability in the local community.

My experience makes me makes me a strong candidate for this role in several ways:

- Studied politics at undergraduate level gaining insights into sustainability from economics; philosophy; environment; and development. This diverse background reflects the holistic approach required to tackle environmental problems and equips me to bring together the unique talents and backgrounds of society members to deliver sustainable solutions for our clients.

- Worked as a supervisor in a large supermarket; developing my management; communication and delegation skills. I fostered a collaborative environment by actively listening to team members, and setting team-developed targets, ensuring respect and teamwork. A large part of the portfolio manager role will be project management and allocating roles to society members, and I believe my experience managing a large team of colleagues will serve me well in guiding our society’s initiatives.

- Operated as the ESG champion for my department, enhancing my ability to communicate sustainability issues and initiatives to diverse audiences. This will allow me to confidently liaise between project hosts, the committee and society members.
