Hey! I am Georgina, a second year student going into third year. I am interested in applying for the role as Publicity Officer. There are several reasons as to why I would like to be a part of LDAS and this role. Firstly, I am keen to contribute back to this society and promote the positive cause that the society holds. Without LDAS, I would have not known about the breadth of information associated with the world of aesthetic dentistry. As a dental student who is interested in learning more about the different avenues of dentistry, I am grateful that LDAS has created a community which provides advice, information and opportunities from professionals. As publicity officer, I believe that it is an important role within the committee to inform the wider community at dental school about upcoming events. It is important to create material for events that are clear, informative and eye-catching so that there are great turnouts to events. The role requires knowledgeable and active use of social media, and good communication amongst committee members so that events information is delivered in good time and accurately. These actions require skills such as good teamwork, communication, organisation, formatting skills and use of social media.

During my time at Sixth Form, I was on the committee for our Medical and Dental Society. In being a part of a team for over two years, it taught me skills such as communication and good organisation. I had to communicate with peers and those in the years below when delivering talks, as well as to members of staff and students senior to me. It was useful in teaching me about communicating effectively and appropriately to the target audience. I believe these skills will be transferrable when I will be communicating to members of the committee about what to include in events information and what content to include in posts on the Instagram page. Being organised is also a core value that I have developed when I was leading my Sixth Form’s Medical and Dental society. I had to ensure that there was communication across different year groups in lower and upper school on a weekly basis for sessions that we held. I also had to create posters around the school, which is a skill that I can use for when creating posters for events. Having practice using formatting websites such as Canva previously will prepare me for this role. Moreover, being a tutor of three years has also improved my organisation skills, such as reminding my tutees of when their lessons are in advance and creating weekly lesson plans. This relates to posting on time and maintaining an active presence on social media. Overall, I am excited to contribute more within the dental school. I believe that going for the role of Publicity officer will enable me to work in a team that are passionate about contributing to the dental community and aspire more dental students to be informed about aesthetic dentistry.
