Hi all, my name is Catherine and I am a first year dental surgery student running for the role of Junior Representative in LDAS. I have a keen interest in the field of dental aesthetics and I am always eager to share and learn more about the latest developments and trends. I believe I have the motivation and commitment to promote the society's aims of advancing knowledge and education in the field of dental aesthetics.
As Junior Representative, my main role would be to keep everyone in the loop about upcoming events, lectures, and workshops. Utilising many communication channels like social media, group chats, and email would allow me to make sure everyone knows what's going on within LDAS. I believe it's important to get the junior school students engaged and excited about the society’s events, so I would work closely with the committee to come up with fun and creative ways to promote what's going on if I were elected.
In addition, my experience as an ambassador prefect for my sixth form gives me the confidence to be an effective liaison between the junior students and the committee and ensure that the society is meeting the needs and interests of its junior members. If I were to be elected, I would be well-equipped to answer any questions regarding any events, as well as take feedback on new things the junior members would like to see and what LDAS can improve on.
I am confident that I can make a meaningful contribution to the society by working with the other committee members to develop and implement new events and activities which have the junior dental school community in mind. Thank you for considering me for Junior Rep and I hope you vote for me!

I am enthusiastic about applying for the Junior Representative position at the Leeds Dental Aesthetic Society. As a second-year dental student (going into third year this September), I am passionate about the transformative power of cosmetic dentistry and its positive impact on people's lives.

My interest in cosmetic dentistry was sparked when I underwent Invisalign treatment several years ago. The confidence and joy that my new smile brought me inspired me to pursue a career in this field and to bring that same joy to others. As a student representative for the LDAS, I would be honoured to promote the importance and benefits of cosmetic dentistry to a wider undergraduate audience.

In my previous role as a Chemistry subject ambassador, I developed invaluable skills that will undoubtedly aid me in this role. I supported students in year 11 by helping them see the long-term benefits and applications of a Chemistry A-Level, enabling them to shift their perspective on post-16 choices and consider Chemistry. I achieved this by organising speakers to inspire students as well as showing inspirational videos from people who have taken Chemistry further. I am confident in my ability to connect with people, listen to their views, and build positive relationships. This skill has been fortified by my years of experience working in hospitality, where I learned the importance of clear communication and the ability to adapt to different situations and personalities.

In my studies, I consistently strive for excellence. For example, in labs, I seek out my tutor's advice and feedback to improve my skills. My passion for cosmetic dentistry has also led me to attend talks and read books by experts in the field, such as Nicola Gore. I was fortunate to connect with Nicola and the “Two Dentists” after the talk hosted by LDAS, where we discussed their experiences of dental school and gained insights and tips for my career. These experiences provided me with invaluable guidance and inspiration, which I am eager to share with others.

As Junior Representative for the LDAS, I will have many responsibilities including relaying information from the committee to younger years. I will ensure that all the relevant information is accessible, communicated effectively and in a timely manner. Additionally, I will be a point of liaison for feedback from our events, making sure that every student's voice is heard, and taken into account. I will gather opinions from students to ascertain what they would like to see in the future and communicate this to the committee. Furthermore, I will work with the committee to organise events tailored to the needs and interests of the undergraduate audience. I am confident that my communication skills, relationship building skills, and passion for cosmetic dentistry, will enable me to excel in this role. I am also passionate about connecting with groups that are underrepresented in higher education. I’ll consider the different demographics of dentistry students and ensure that I can represent their views to the best of my ability.
