Hey I’m Steph and I’m running for the role of President of LDAS! I was the junior representative of LDAS this year and next year I’d love to be a bigger part of the society. I’ve loved being junior rep and it has given me the opportunity to see what LDAS is about and how we run as a society. This past year, thanks to everyone on the committee we’ve had some amazing speakers come in and we’ve held some brilliant talks so I’d like to keep the momentum going and ensure that this can continue into next year! LDAS aims to help members discover more about the world of dental aesthetics and how it plays a part in so many different areas of dentistry. This is something that I am particularly passionate about as before I started university I spent a year working as a dental nurse in a practice that provided aesthetic treatments (such as Invisalign). Being able to watch these treatments gave me an insight into how life-changing cosmetic dentistry can be for patients and how rewarding providing such treatments can be for the professionals. This sparked an interest in aesthetic dentistry for me and attending the LDAS events this year has broadened my knowledge of the world of aesthetic dentistry and has furthered my interest in it. Learning about the different aspects of dentistry is so important for students of all years and encouraging students from first year all the way through to fifth year to attend the LDAS events and see if they are interested in aesthetic dentistry is a goal of mine. I’m friendly, enthusiastic and passionate about aesthetic dentistry so I believe I’d make a great president of LDAS next year. Thanks!

Presidency embodies the responsibility of making crucial decisions and actively engaging in societal matters. As a prospective candidate, I acknowledge my possession of these qualities, while also recognising the areas where improvement is needed. If entrusted with the role of presidency, my vision is to collaborate with my team members to elevate LDAS, fostering a society that caters to and empowers students with knowledge.
My enthusiasm for aesthetical dentistry predates my dental school journey, as I have spent countless hours observing smile makeovers and patients undergoing full mouth rehabilitation. Attending dental events has provided me with valuable insights into the latest advancements in cosmetic dentistry, igniting a fervor within me. I aspire to share this knowledge with our dental school's students, enabling them to deliver high-quality dentistry to their patients in Worsley and beyond. My active involvement in the dental community as a JTMS representative has expanded my network and will provide opportunities for collaboration.
My involvement with various societies and organisations during my university years has equipped me with the necessary skills to undertake this demanding role. Notably, my keen interest in clinical photography, which I believe plays a pivotal role in career development and patient attraction, drives me to enhance my understanding in this field. I aim to offer fellow dental students a glimpse into this realm, showcasing its importance.
Serving as the sponsorship officer for Dentsoc, I have developed the ability to liaise effectively with the school and external companies, thus creating opportunities that would otherwise be unattainable without networking and financial support. Collaborating with my fellow sponsorship officer, we have successfully organised and executed Dentsoc events this year. I aim to replicate this success within LDAS, hosting high-quality events with excellent turnout. My objective for LDAS is to expand the number of sessions throughout the year, focusing on quality and tailoring content for students at different stages of their dental education. Additionally, I intend to introduce hands-on workshops for both early and older years, drawing from my experience at dental conferences where I witnessed the meticulous planning, equipment preparation, and effort involved in such events.
In my role as the JTMS representative, I have cultivated an extensive network of dentists involved in facial aesthetics. Leveraging these connections, I envision organising day trips to aesthetic dentistry events such as the BAPD and BACD, providing valuable exposure and learning opportunities. Furthermore, my ambassadorship for Dentinal Tubules and DIAN has honed my coordination skills in terms of efficient promotion, thus boosting turnout for LDAS events.
Active involvement in organising events like the trade fair during Dentsoc has provided me with valuable experience in event coordination and setup. Moreover, I have successfully constructed publicity posts and effectively communicated with relevant school members to relay important messages. Additionally, my tenure as a year representative in BDS1 has familiarised me with the inner workings of the school, enabling me to identify necessary improvements and address concerns raised by my cohort. Engaging in student-staff forums has also equipped me with effective communication skills, which I intend to leverage while leading and collaborating with my team.
Having opened and run a medical and dental society in 6th form, I have cultivated the skills needed to work as a team and lead. In this capacity, I have conducted events that require risk assessments and supervision, such as facilitating CPR courses for my fellow students. I hope to utilise these skills when managing and supervising events in the following year.
Drawing upon my comprehensive knowledge and experiences, I am committed to facilitating the growth of LDAS and elevating it to new heights, following the trajectory set by Zain and his committee this year. With a strong focus on empowering students with knowledge, organising high-quality events, expanding networks, and fostering effective communication, I aim to contribute to the development of an exceptional society. Together, we can create an LDAS that not only provides valuable insights but also nurtures the skills and aspirations of future dental professionals.
