Badminton has always been more than just a sport to me- it’s something I return to. It’s what reminded me most of home during my first year in Leeds and helped me adjust to life abroad, as it was a constant between these two worlds. After a spinal injury in October 2025, it was the recreational sessions that gave me a way back in. They weren’t just about playing again; they were about rebuilding my confidence, rediscovering enjoyment, bringing a sense of normalcy back to me, and being part of a welcoming community that didn’t demand perfection from me. These experiences taught me a lot that I intend to bring to the role next year.

I aim to create sessions that feel genuinely accessible to everyone who chooses to attend, even if they are picking up a racquet for the first time or the first time in a long time. I want every session to strike a balance between structure and freedom, where people can learn and improve while still enjoying the social side of the sport. A big part of this is ensuring that new or prospective members never feel lost or intimidated and instead feel immediately part of something.

Equally important is maintaining a strong and approachable presence within the society. As a society, i have identified that we strive to not only be organised, but also visible and supportive. I intend to carry forward and also enhance this so that every member of the society feels comfortable turning to us when they have questions, need some encouragement, or want to get more involved in the work we have going on (like maybe helping me put everything away after a rec session).

Finally, I want to strengthen the connection and communication between all parts of the club. A society works best when every member feels included in its direction, whether they are there for competition, social play, or simply to try something new because a friend invited them during one of their extremely boring 09:00 lectures. By doing this, I aim to ensure every member feels represented and comfortable letting us know where we can improve.

My goal is simple: to make every session a place where people feel welcome, supported, and excited to return.
