Hi everyone! I’m Keya, a second-year law student and a women’s 2 player. I am running for the Welfare Secretary as this society made my university experience significantly better, and I wish every member of this society feels the same way!

As an international student, transitioning to life in Leeds was not the easiest. However, the welcoming atmosphere of the society made it a lot easier. I found some of my best friends through the badminton society, and my goal is to make sure every member, whether you’re a team player, a recreational beginner or any future member, finds that same comfort and builds a sense of community.

As your welfare secretary:
- Breaking the ice: I would like to focus on ice-breaking activities to ensure everyone finds their people in this lovely society! :)"
- Proactive Support: I will prioritise the well-being of everyone and hear everyone out if they are facing issues with respect to society or just need to be heard!
- Zero Tolerance: carrying out regular polls and questionnaires to inquire about disciplinary issues and ensure action is taken against any kind of illtreatment.

Hi, I'm Hani and I'm running for Welfare Secretary
I'm a first year law student and I'm someone who's really energetic, outgoing and always up for a chat. I'm genuinely the type of person who loves talking to people, whether that's in person or online, so l'd always be around if anyone needs a proper conversation, a rant, or just someone to listen.
I care a lot about welfare and it's actually something I want to go into in the future as I'm hoping to become a social worker. Because of that, creating a supportive environment isn't just something I say, it's something I genuinely value and want to be involved in.
Within badminton, I think welfare is really important in ways people don't always talk about.
Whether it's feeling nervous at sessions, not enjoying the environment, struggling with confidence, or just not feeling included, those things can affect how much you enjoy the club. I want to make sure everyone feels comfortable turning up, playing and actually enjoying being part of it.
I've also been involved in a mental health peer support group before, including being Vice President, so l've had experience supporting others and helping create a space where people feel listened to and understood.
If I'm elected, l'd aim to do regular wellbeing check ins, organise welfare-focused events and work with the committee to keep the club a positive, supportive and genuinely welcoming space for everyone, on and off the court.
