Hi everyone, my name’s Thoi and I have been part of art society since first year. I was the life drawing secretary in my first year and social secretary this year. Both positions have been so incredibly rewarding that I want to continue onto giving back to artsoc. Me and Emma (current event sec, president candidate) have been talking about our plans and goals for artsoc for quite some time now and I am really excited to carry them out this coming academic year. I have met so many amazing people through this society so I would really love to give it all back and also make it better.

As secretary my main duties would involve booking the models and venues for the life drawing sessions. I have a lot of experience in life drawing because I started as the life drawing sec in first year so I’m already familiar with the ins and outs of it. For the models, I would maintain the diversity in our models, keeping it accessible and open to everyone regardless of their age and experience. Emmy, our secretary this year has done such a great job in that and I would love to maintain the same for the upcoming year. We currently have our Monday on campus life drawing in FAHACS, however, I am not really sure we could do the same for the next year due to access key issues. Regardless of that I will book a room that will be accessible to all and will maintain the same cozy vibe as our Tuesday RPP life drawings.

I would also love to organise nature or outdoor life drawings. Me and Emma have been discussing about taking some small trips to local hiking spots or museums and aquariums where we could walk around and draw. As the social secretary last year, I organised our very first artsoc trip to Whitby, so I am very well versed in booking and handling trips and I would work with the social secretaries to have more trips for artsoc. The ticket prices would also be affordable as this was one of my goals last year as social sec and something I want to carry on as secretary too.

One of the other things that I have been thinking about is volunteering. Our society is really big (398 members this year!) and I know there are some members out there who would like to know how artsoc functions and so I have been thinking of introducing volunteers. As a volunteer you would help out with either our life drawing or events workshop and any other big events where we would love some additional help like exhibitions. My main goal here is to make members feel more included in our society and make artsoc a more community oriented space.

As the secretary, I would also keep our committee inbox very organised (not everyone’s cup of tea, I know!) and plan our schedules ahead of time to help ensure everything is running smoothly. My time in artsoc the last two years have been really smooth and independent and I would want to keep this up by ensuring our events are properly planned and everyone in our committee can do what they want to.
