Hi guys! As most of you know, I’m Laura, a second year Mathematics and Statistics student, and I’m reapplying to be LUUSAG’s Treasurer!
I took on the role of treasurer last year with very little experience, but I’d like to think that over the course of the year I’ve made the role my own and am eager to continue this growth.
To give a little “Scouty-Guidy” background on myself, I joined both organiaations when I was 11, and am still an active Scout Leader here in Leeds while working towards my Queen’s Scout, and am a holder of both my Gold DofE Award, and Queen’s Guide Award. To be honest, both organisations are very close to my heart and if I were to get a committee position again next year, I’d love the opportunity to continue to strengthen ties with local groups.
Another massive aim for me is to continue to re-establish LUUSAG on a national level, plus as a more role-specific goal I’d love the chance to continue to formalise the societies accounts. When I took over the role, I didn’t have too much to go on, especially with LUU just moving over to the Engage system we all know and love (to hate haha!). This means I feel I’ve just found my feet and would love to continue my work of making the role of treasurer less daunting in the future.
In terms of my SSAGO experience so far, my highlight this year has probably been Viking Rally as it was amazing to see everyone nationally that I’d heard about the year before, but if I’m honest I think this will be eclipsed by our Summer Camp!
As it may be known within the society, I’m quite a fan of mountains, hikes, and excel spreadsheets, so growing this society as its Treasurer really is the role for me.

I am applying to this position because I wish to be a part of organising the scout society given that they have been the best society that I have joined since I started. I personally have enjoyed the range of activities they have organised this past year, and I hope to make sure that the future year is full of activities that cater to all interests.
I have served with my own scout group (1st Osterley) since I was a beaver and have achieved up to the platinum scout award. So, I have a lot of experience with scouting and scout related activities.
For two years of my Duke of Edinburgh Award, I was a beaver leader who helped in the organising of meetings and activities, so I have some experience in helping a scout related organisation.
With my scout group back home, I took part in financial talks regarding what we can reasonably afford for scout camps and activities for regular meetings. So, I have experience with scout financial matters already.
I have been in attendance for most socials and outings of the society and I am well known among its attendees.
I got an A* in my A level maths and have done two university maths modules in my subject. Giving me good knowledge of maths and finance.
I also have the time and energy to devote to the society and its committee to make sure that it is run as smoothly as possible.
I promise that I will take good care of the finances of the society and build upon the work of the previous administration to ensure that everything runs smoothly so everyone will better enjoy their time with the society. I will look into new ways of financing our operations, whether that be slightly increasing our already low membership cost, or planning fundraisers so that the group can afford bigger and better socials.
