Hey everyone,
My name is Juliet and if you haven’t met me yet, I am a first-year student studying Speech and Language Therapy at Leeds Beckett University, and I’m running for social secretary.

My background in Scouting began at age 7 when I joined the local beaver colony, presumably to give my parents some peace on a Monday night and as my brothers were loving their time in respective sections. This was all before the time of squirrels! I enjoyed the personal development and growth that came from progressing through the different sections taking on new challenges and responsibilities throughout! I am passionate about camping and will take any opportunity to get out and about in nature. Throughout my time in scouting, I have undertaken both Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and completed my young leader qualification, both commitments helping with teamwork and interpersonal skills. I finished Explorers in the middle of the pandemic and was gutted to have missed out on a final goodbye to scouting after such a long time. I hadn’t considered continuing scouting at a university level as I didn’t realise it was an option but am very grateful that I found LUUSAG at the freshers’ fair last September.

I aim to continue our beloved weekly pub lunches as well as a range of different socials that will bring everyone together for a bit of fun and a laugh! LUUSAG socials have been incredibly enjoyable these past two semesters and if elected, I would love to continue the legacy. For example, planning another Otley run and mixing it with chill socials such as movie and board game nights in the union!. Additionally, planning some day trips outside of Leeds such as to York and Harrogate! A great memory of LUUSAG for me will always be Halloween Camp back in October, a fun-filled weekend that in true British form, was completed by non-stop rain and lots of halloumi! If elected, I really look forward to working with the rest of LUUSAG to create some amazing socials and memories over the upcoming year.
