About me:
I am Alexandra, and I am currently a first year studying Business Management. I am a fun and friendly person who loves netball and sports. I have been involved in sports and been playing netball for well over 10 years. I am a very hardworking individual who is always helpful and willing to go out of my own way to help others. I am currently in LUBS Netball so have a great idea of how it runs smoothly and effectively as well as have a great understanding of how much team socials help bond a team.
Explain some of your experience that makes you good for the role.

I have been a netball coach for the past 5 years and have managed multiple teams at once. I have overseen and organised tournaments as well as organising kit for the club and teams. I believe I have the qualities that you are looking for as my organisational and time management skills are exceptional as I had to look after multiple teams at once and make sure they were on time to matches etc. I have great teamwork skills as I work effectively with in my sport teams always supporting others, I am friendly and always reliable. In addition to this I love socialising with my team and making sure that everybody feels included and part of the team. I am a great innovator and if there is a problem, I always make sure that I find a solution. I have been a team captain at 2 clubs and been able to delegate tasks effectively to other players to get the best result.
What you would do in the role and why you would be the right choice.

If I got this opportunity, I would make sure that I am getting to know everybody and make sure that I am creating an inclusive environment. In addition to this, I would make sure that I am always looking for new way that I can help the committee and offer help where is needed. I would make sure that I collaborate with other members of the committee and bounce ideas off them so that I can optimise efficiency. I am the right person for the job as I am a hard worker who has great time management skills as well as great organisational skills so I can stay on top of all the demands. I make sure that I am working to the best of my ability. I love seeing people develop and I feel that my experience will support me in this role and makes me the best person for the job.

My name is Ellie Andrews, I am 20 years old and a first year Business Management student at the University of Leeds and I would like to apply for the Vice President for Female Sports role for LUBS committee. I am currently a loyal member of the LUBS netball team (I play Centre position) and look forward to my weekly matches. I am originally from York and spent half my gap year last year being a sales and marketing intern for two businesses and the second half of the year travelling. Netball is my passion, I have played it since I was around 6 years old and have also proudly trialled and successfully played for North Yorkshire for 3 years. I love how social the sport is, how it brings people together and I would thoroughly enjoy being able to bring new people into the LUBS team and for them to share what I experienced this past year.

My experience:

I understand netball very well and have had lots of experience with different clubs, coaches and training sessions. I know what has made me, as a member of the team, feel motivated and excited to turn up to training sessions and I believe I can create this for new LUBS members. I have also been a volunteer gymnastics coach for 6 years prior to Uni where I enjoyed leading classes from the ages of 3 to young adults, so taking this leading role would come with ease to me. With my experience in sports and coaching and my dedication to providing smoothly run matches and training sessions, I know I would be able to deliver this role.

I also would love to aim for a more active social media and for LUBS Sport to be more present across all platforms, for example I would be excited to create a LUBS Sport Tik Tok account to post content on our socials, training and matches. Previously I have managed two companies social media, which has developed my skills to be able to increase our following of LUBS Sport.

My communication and organisational skills developed with clients and internal team members during these internships allowed me to hone my skills liaising between the marketing and sales teams, which will help with the coordination and organising of matches. I enjoyed the WhatsApp group chat for the socials this year although I understood that sometimes people forgot to reply to whether they could play for the match that week so I could introduce a new system. For example, everyone who attends the training session could then note down after the session, whether they could play in that week's match. This also reduces the unfairness when choosing players who rarely show up to training sessions to play in the matches.

Why I believe I am well suited to the role:

I believe I could drive the society forward through new and innovative ideas such as setting up matches between different university business teams for both netball and football. This can create engagement across our social media and help to advertise our society to more of University of Leeds's business students.

Another idea that was loosely introduced this year, was joint socials, as a member I really enjoyed these and would look into inputting more into next year. I also have friends in different societies who I have proposed the idea to who are keen to join up on socials.

Also with the task of sorting kits, I work for my parents family business who manufacture branded clothing so I have experience in managing orders of netball dresses, fleeces and hoodies.

For me, getting the role of Vice President of Female Sports would mean I could give back to the society as I have gained so much from it. Being a part of LUBS Netball has really made my first year at university, from the first trial, where I turned up by myself and everyone was so friendly and inclusive, to now where I have a solid group of friends and I'm part of a brilliant team.

Lastly, I know how important it is for the Vice President of Female Sport to be welcoming to all members and to create an inclusive, friendly atmosphere. I consider myself an approachable and easy going person, who would relish the opportunity to take on this role and encourage as many Business students of all capabilities to give it a go and have an opportunity to build friendships in a sociable and relaxed setting.
