Re-elect Mohammad!

Hi, I’m Mohammad. I am your current elected Academic Societies Rep, and I am running again to continue supporting our academic societies.

My wins this year:
* Created the blueprint for the first Academic Societies Award:
Each year, academic societies put in incredible hard work to enrich our academic community. To celebrate your achievements across multiple categories and share them across campus and online, I have created a blueprint for the first Academic Societies Award, and I want to execute this plan in 26/27.

* Chaired the largest collaboration between academic societies:
Collaboration in the academic space is very rare compared to other categories. I chaired one of, if not the largest, collaborative academic events seen in recent years: The Leeds AI Week (https://www.leedsaiweek.co.uk)

* Supported formation of academic societies:
This year, I have personally supported the formation of multiple academic societies and want to continue the support.


My plans for next year:
* Host the first Academic Societies Award:
Almost 1/3 of all societies are Academic Societies. Yet, we do not have a dedicated Academic Societies Award, and a lot of our hard work does not get the spotlight it deserves.
I want to spotlight your society's hard work through the first Academic Societies Award. This award will celebrate all the brilliant work across multiple categories. More awards = more recognition.

* More collaboration:
I want to continue the collaborative culture at LUU by hosting more events and bringing multiple societies together. And yes, there will be a dedicated award to encourage more academic collaboration between societies.

* Continue support for academic societies:
I’ll continue to be there to guide you through the formation process, from shaping your structure and goals to finding the right people to talk to. I’ve worked closely with faculties, student groups, and the LUU team to get things off the ground before, and I’ll make sure you’ve got the support you need every step of the way.

* Academic Societies Roundtable:
I’ll launch frequent Roundtables where society committees can share updates, raise concerns, and collaborate across schools and faculties. These discussions won’t just stay in the room; they’ll shape policy and decision-making. I’m used to building consensus across different voices through my current roles, and I’ll make sure your ideas are heard by the right people.

* Support your grant application:
Many societies miss out on funding not because they’re not eligible, but because the process feels unclear. I’ll support you to clarify the system and support your applications, drawing on my experience advocating for student-led projects and helping peers refine proposals that get approved.

* Turning Society Experience into Career Confidence
Let’s make sure everything you do in your society counts beyond uni. I’ll work with the Careers Centre to connect academic societies with industry mentors, run workshops that boost your LinkedIn and CV, and put together an LUU-backed guide on the leadership skills you gain through society roles, so you can show future employers just how valuable your experience really is.


A bit about me:
I am returning from my placement year. I'm studying Computer Science with AI. I am the current elected Academic Societies Rep (the role you are voting for).

I won the Student Leader of the Year Award at Leeds, twice!!!!

I am the President of one of the growing academic societies, the Artificial Intelligence Society.
I have been the School Representative of the School of Computer Science for 2 years.

I’ve spent the past three years working with students, staff, and University departments to shape academic experiences, resolve challenges, and turn feedback into action, and I’m excited to continue that in this role next year.
