I understand the importance that sport has, both physically, mentally and socially. Participating in netball this year as a first-year student allowed me to make friends, meet other people and connect with students in other years which otherwise would not have been as possible. While this helps academically, it also gave me an opportunity to meet others on my course which can otherwise be more difficult. Through encouraging team sport, I hope this cycle can continue for new first-year students, and strengthen for all other years.

I’ve played netball competitively for over 7 years, and received coaching and umpire training, therefore allowing me to have detailed knowledge about the gameplay and rules. I pride myself on my organisational skills, which will be highly beneficial to sort out courts, matches, training and team sheets. If I was to become a sports sec, I would like to build on the team’s ability competitively as well as encouraging a social and welcoming atmosphere both on the court, and off, which is hopefully now more possible with the easing of restrictions.

I would like to be sport sec for the psychology society committee as I have hugely enjoyed being a part of the psychology netball team this year and would like to see the team continue and grow, I felt it gave me great opportunity to play netball and at the perfect level - ideal for most individuals who have played previously. I have some great ideas and thoughts about growing the netball team and sport participation in psychology as a whole, such as developing a kit, gaining sponsorship for the team, arranging away matches with other uni’s psychology societies and developing other psychology sports teams, as well as sharing progress and promotion on social media. I think I would be good at this role due to my love as sport as a keen swimmer and netball player, and my previous experience as swim captain at my club, inclusive sports ambassador in secondary school and running of the sixth form netball team. My involvement both as a member and leader in my various school and extra – curricular teams has developed my skills as an organised, reliable and accommodating individual and a great communicator. I think, because of this I would be a great sport sec and would be excited to be part of the committee.
