I’m running for blog editor because I think writing is a powerful tool to fight for human rights. I would use social media as a platform for the blog and to create a discussion about articles written, such as through polls. Incorporating different voices into the blog is essential. I want the blog to be an opportunity for people to have their voice heard, especially those who have experienced the issues Amnesty concerns itself with first-hand. This would make the blog a really impactful medium, hopefully increasing readers’ interest and concern with human rights. Finally, as an International History and Politics student who has written for the history society’s magazine, I want to highlight the connection between history and human rights. Writing and learning about past events, such as the Rwandan Genocide, helps to fight ignorance and ensure human rights violations like these do not happen again.
