Hi everyone! My name is Raveen, and I am officially nominating myself to be your next President of the Leeds University Sri Lankan Society.

Having been a member of this society for the past two years, I’ve seen us grow into a vibrant community that feels like a home away from home. For the last year, I’ve served as your Treasurer, which has given me a close look at exactly what it takes to fund, organise, and execute the events we love.

Why Vote for Me?

I’m not just here to maintain the status quo I’m here to build on the incredible momentum we’ve gained this year.

As Treasurer, I managed our finances with precision, ensuring every penny went toward making our gatherings better. I know the Union’s systems inside out, meaning I can hit the ground running on day one.

This year, we hosted around 12 events. While that’s a great start, I know we can do more. My primary goal is to increase our event frequency, creating more opportunities for us to celebrate our culture, network, and, most importantly, eat great food together.

Whether it’s an energetic Baila night or calm gingerbread house decorating session, I want to ensure every member feels included. I’m approachable, organised, and willing to put in the work.

Hi, I’m Alisha and I’m applying to be President of the Sri Lankan Society for 2026–27! I’ve loved being part of SL Soc this year, and I would be excited to join the committee and contribute to such a welcoming community. I believe I would make a great president because I’m approachable, friendly, and always willing to listen to others. I’m also responsible and organised, with strong teamwork and communication skills from my past experiences — all of which will help me support the committee and keep the society running smoothly. If elected, my goals are to keep the society active throughout the year, work with others to organise more cultural and social events such as food nights, game nights, trips, and collaborations with other societies. I would love to grow our community by creating opportunities to meet new people and make friends and celebrate Sri Lankan culture in meaningful and fun ways, so everyone feels welcome!
