Assalam alaikum everyone! ✨
Hope you’re all keeping well and in the best of health, Insha’Allah! My name’s Mariam and I’m running for Head of Marketing! Currently I’m studying Psychology and coming to the end of first-year!

Since starting at University of Leeds and turning up to almost every event hosted by ISoc, I’ve experienced so many beautiful moments, Alhumdulilah. From crying in the halaqa’s to laughing at games night, Isoc has blessed me with so many lifelong friendships and memories! So for me, this role is a pay back to the society for all the support and guidance it’s given me when an ‘anxious Mariam’ started her course! I have a HUGE passion for design and media and would love an outlet to express this whilst simultaneously inviting others to interact with exciting and valuable events! 🤩 Outside of University, I work in retail as a Supervisor so I’m very comfortable managing a team, making sure targets are met on time, and everything is seamlessly coordinated! It’s also super important that everyone on the committee, specifically the marketing team are constantly in sync and up-to-date with everything ISoc!

Some of you may have seen the work I did leading up to Ramadan. If not, I designed and printed planners specific to the holy month - so I know my way around Canva (platform used by ISoc), and other design platforms, pretty well. It’s also important to ensure that the society’s events are getting the promotion they deserve! This means spreading the word, not only through social media but also by handing out flyers, putting up posters and inviting those who may be a bit reserved or simply just curious! As most of us are representatives of the Muslim ummah, it’s so important we leave a lasting impression on each other AND those unfamiliar with Islam! What’s a better way to do that, than opening dialogue and welcoming friendly interactions?

I believe the ISoc’s social media fronts, including Instagram and Tiktok, could do with some TLC! The TikTok page could be an amazing way to grow the society - not only internally through the university but also help us form connections with other Islamic Societies around the country! Consistency (and aesthetics 😁) is key! The Instagram page would benefit from takeaways after big events in which speakers are invited - this is something I already do on my personal social media and know that many people benefit from it, especially when they weren’t able to make it to the event! There’s many many more ideas in my mind that I’d love to come to life and I’m sure you’ll love them as much as me!
