Hey Amnesty team, I’m Jake and I am super excited at the prospect of being part of the Amnesty general committee.
The way I see myself helping the Amnesty committee is through developing the communication of ideas into actualities.
I never really understood Human Rights, how could we claim their existence but treat each other with so much hostility?
To deal with this, I deepened my own understanding by reading and furthering my knowledge about the development of human rights.
Through this, I did not just become passionate about human rights, but felt a moral obligation to help defend and protect our humanity.

This is why I’m writing to you and hoping for your vote.

I’m 20, I study History of art, I’m queer.
Being queer has really made me think and appreciate what it means to feel accepted and equal in a larger social context.
History of Art has exposed to me the subtle inequalities we may cease to visualise due to the oppressive mechanisms that are at play in what feels like the abyss.
Whilst often the correlations between human suffering and inequality to institutions such as the art world are often subtle, their impact are anything but.
The chance to inject even more energy and motivation into turning ideas into action and widening the general conversation to a larger audience is something seems like invaluable work.

I really hope I come across as a candidate you want to vote for. Any votes I get would be a personal motivation to do more to create change.

Hey everyone! I’m really excited to be running for the General Committee at Amnesty. I’m super passionate about human rights and can’t wait to get more involved in helping out with everything that makes Amnesty’s work on campus so important. Whether it’s helping plan events, promoting campaigns, or just being an extra pair of hands wherever needed, I’m here for it!

As a final-year law student, I’ve looked into issues like gender-based violence and how different social groups are treated in the justice system. It’s shown me how crucial it is to keep raising awareness and pushing for real change. I’d love the chance to help bring Amnesty’s work to even more people at uni.

Hey everyone! I'm Abigail (you can call me Abi). I'm excited to be running for General Committee at Amnesty Leeds. I am passionate about human rights and want to be a part of the amazing work at Amnesty.

I am new to Leeds University and I am returning to education at the age of 24!

I have volunteered and worked in various educational settings, working with children and adults. Within the last 3 years, I have worked as an English Language teacher in Prague, Czech Republic for a year, at The University of Agder in Norway, supporting international students accessing education for another year, and in various teaching and support roles at primary schools in the UK for the last year. Alongside my job roles, I have volunteered in several groups supporting Refugees and Asylum seekers with English language, housing, and community support.

I believe all of these roles have taught me about approaching situations with care and compassion, providing a voice to the voiceless, and the importance of raising awareness to promote change.

I am enthusiastic about Amnesty's work and ready to take part in making a difference! I'm up for helping with any role and hope you will consider me for the role!

Hi my name is Lola Boyle and I am a second year student studying International History and Politics. I am super excited about possibly being on the committee and being directly involved in the amazing work that Amnesty does. I am very passionate about human rights and providing a platform for people and myself to get involved in creating change, in university and beyond!

I have great organisational and communication skills and would be eager to provide aid in any way possible to ensure that Amnesty thrives! Last year I was apart of Soldiaritee Leeds (a student-led charity/society which raises money for refugees) and while it is unfortunately no longer running, I learnt a lot while I was involved. Most significantly, how to engage in conversation with people and raise awareness for issues that many may not be aware of. Being apart of Solidaritee, I further understood the importance of being a team player and being able to work together seamlessly and provide support wherever and whenever it is required. The society was close knit so we would all work together. I helped out wherever was needed, be it at bake sales or at Amnesty’s Jamnesty event which was joint with Solidaritee last year! Across the year, I was able to use my interpersonal skills to promote our cause and we managed to sell a record number of t-shirts which directly funded providing support to refugees and asylum seekers.

I have thoroughly enjoyed to be involved in an important cause this past year. It has been both super fun and inspiring, and so I would love the opportunity to play a role in continuing to highlight necessary issues and promote change. For me, it would be an honour to be elected to general committee at Amnesty International!

I am very passionate about the work that Amnesty does and I would love the chance to put forward what I learnt last year to another great cause and society.
