Hi everybody, I’m super excited for this opportunity to run for Amnesty’s Events Sec and really hope you’ll consider voting for me! I’m currently in my second year studying history and am really excited to be getting involved with more human rights-based stuff this year, as it’s been such an eventful yet disheartening few years for human rights. I am really passionate about young people doing their bit and having their voices heard in regard to everything going on in the world currently, so I am eager to help organise and make that more accessible wherever I can.

I’m currently the publicity secretary for the university’s History Society, so I’ve got used to communicating and promoting different events online and around campus. Amnesty has been important for me for a while now, as I was a part of my secondary school’s Amnesty society and was president of that group for two years during Sixth Form, so am super keen to get back into it, after the chaos of first year.

Hey Amnesty team, I’m Jake and I am super excited at the prospect of being part of the Amnesty general committee.
The way I see myself helping the Amnesty committee is through developing the communication of ideas into actualities.
I never really understood Human Rights, how could we claim their existence but treat each other with so much hostility?
To deal with this, I deepened my own understanding by reading and furthering my knowledge about the development of human rights.
Through this, I did not just become passionate about human rights, but felt a moral obligation to help defend and protect our humanity.

This is why I’m writing to you and hoping for your vote.

I’m 20, I study History of art, I’m queer.
Being queer has really made me think and appreciate what it means to feel accepted and equal in a larger social context.
History of Art has exposed to me the subtle inequalities we may cease to visualise due to the oppressive mechanisms that are at play in what feels like the abyss.
Whilst often the correlations between human suffering and inequality to institutions such as the art world are often subtle, their impact are anything but.
The chance to inject even more energy and motivation into turning ideas into action and widening the general conversation to a larger audience is something seems like invaluable work.

I really hope I come across as a candidate you want to vote for. Any votes I get would be a personal motivation to do more to create change.

Hi! I'm Alice, a second year International History and Politics students passionate about the work of Amnesty International. With experience in organising and running events, I'm excited at the opportunity to organise fun social events that raise money for charity at the same time. I also believe it's super important to collaborate with likeminded societies in the University, and hopefully local organisations and groups in the city to enrich our networks and experiences!
