I am Katherine Allen and I think I would be a perfect fit for inclusivity officer. I am currently a second-year English literature student with an interest in LGBTQ+ and feminist literature and reading currently takes up most of my life. The opportunity to work with the Sexpression committee at the university is something that I find exciting, and inclusivity is something I feel strongly about. I was raised as an undiagnosed autistic and dyslexic child, which provided me with struggles in my education, especially when it came to the sex education I received. I want to make the lessons that our branch of Sexpression provides as inclusive as possible and make sure that the classes are accessible and easily understood by everyone, not just neurotypical people. I would also like to have a role in organising events and making them easy to access for volunteers. I also identify as a lesbian, and the lack of education I received about my own sexuality was shocking, and I would like to be involved in implementing the inevitable change in LGBTQ+ sex education. I have volunteered at open days, school events and assemblies throughout my entire education, meaning that I have experience in doing things like the Freshers Fair and GIAG sessions, and I would love to be able to do them again. The main experience I want to use is my experience as an autistic person and as a lesbian to make sex education relevant and understandable to the people we teach and make the society accessible to all its members. I am aware that this is a new position, and I want to shape it into a valuable part of the committee. I also want to meet more sex-positive people like myself!
