I believe I am suitable for the role of President because I have a strong vision and accumulated knowledge on what should be improved in Leeds Thai society to make it better. Having been a part of both the Leeds and Warwick Thai society, I have not only gained valuable connections that could be useful for future interrelations and joint-events, but have also seen the mistakes and successes of both groups.

Furthermore, I have noticed the importance in integrating the Masters and Undergraduate students together more. This would encourage connection between everyone even after graduation to continue the Leeds Thai society network. I would encourage this through my vision in creating more social events throughout the year, career talks, and having opportunities to meet or communicate even back in Thailand.

Additionally, I would focus on improving communication within the society about updating events or information from Sammaggi Samagom. I would do this by setting clear goals and expectations with the committee to minimize any problems in the future. My main aim is to make Leeds Thai society not just a group where we can socialize and have fun, but also use it as a network for improving our university and career experience with things like online and on-sight speakers from Sammaggi, TSIN, SCB and more. I am also motivated to bring in sponsors to reduce any stress on creating affordable events for people to join.

I am a dependable individual and a good point of contact who can be online regularly. I can confidently communicate in Thai and am based in Thailand which is crucial for us in maintaining consistent meet ups, working with other Thai societies, or preparing for Sammaggi games. I am also good at time management as I have been able to balance between multiple societies including the basketball team, my academics, and thai society all at once. If I were elected president, I would be committed in putting the Thai society as my top priority.

Although, coming to university in the UK from Thailand is exciting, it can also be daunting—especially in Leeds where the Thai community is smaller. With ThaiSoc, I would like to create a place that can be our home away from home and take advantage of the unique experiences that being in the UK can provide.

I understand that it can be difficult to find your crowd when starting university, especially in a different country, therefore, one of my aims as president will be to host events more regularly. I hope that this will give more opportunities and time for new relationships to form and be maintained—building a strong and tight knit community.

Since the Thai community in Leeds is relatively small, another aim of mine as president would be to collaborate on events with other Thai societies in the north—such as York, Manchester, Nottingham, etc. I hope this will provide a stronger sense of community in the north.

Even though I have many amazing friends from Thailand, I have also met incredible people from various backgrounds in my time so far in the UK. Therefore, I believe that it would be a great opportunity to collaborate with other societies—making new friends and connections using the advantage of us being in the same place, at the same time, even if only for a few years.

Lastly, I believe I have the skills and experience to be able to create a good ThaiSoc experience for everyone. Being in second year in medical school has taught me a great deal about working with people, especially in stressful situations. Furthermore, it has ensured that I am organized, hardworking and resourceful—qualities which I trust will benefit my role as president. Thank you and I look forward to working with everyone.
