The primary job is to ensure the smooth everyday running of the social media accounts. This involves responding to messages (even if itβs just sign posting) and replying to comments. They should try to ensure growth of the social media account including Facebook and Instagram with the potential of Twitter. They should make use of the Facebook groups to create an engaging atmosphere for members and chase lead volunteers to ensure they post on the page and group promptly following events. Finally they will liaison with photographers, assist with designing and running the website and the committee roles such as organising events.β
Small charities are hugely dependant upon social media for interacting with the public, generating opportunities for publicity or events and encouraging volunteers to engage.
You have a number of social media accounts to look after including Facebook (group and page), Instagram, YouTube and a website. Your priority should be to ensure that their settings are appropriately setup and that the accounts are kept appropriately active. You should occasionally post on Facebook page posts on interest to our followers or encourage them to get involved either as sponsors/view website etc or as volunteers. You should also utilise the Facebook group to create an engaging atmosphere for volunteers where they can see posts that might be of interest to them, ensure the group is set out in an easy way for them to use and they are encouraged to engage with posts (and check on the poll).
Following events, a handful of the best pictures should be uploaded to the Facebook page and the Instagram account and all of the pictures taken placed in the Media part of the Google Drive. Itβs worth checking the pictures used have appropriate permissions.
As a part of the Facebook page, when followers make comments or post, we should respond and interact with them, typically by liking and commenting on the post. Messages sent to the page will also need to be responded to, either by sign posting, directly or informing the appropriate member of the committee.
The nature of the work Make a Smile does makes pictures and videos a very effective tool for the work of the social media officer. As such, it is their responsibility to form a relationship with volunteers willing to give their photography skills such as the photography society and ensuring that photos are used in the best possible way. They need to work with these people to encourage as many high-quality photos showcasing the work of Make a Smile as possible.
