The Wardrobe Manager should know everything about the costumes and resources in the wardrobe, including what there is on offer, what sizes they are and how they are used/worn. They should be accurate log of which costumes are used, where they are and who they are used by. When costumes need repairs or cleaning, they should seek to help with this wherever possible. They shall be responsible for quality control, making sure that costumes are up to scratch and are being used correctly. As part of this, they should monitor pictures from events and advise on hair, make up and clothes based upon these. They should create a brochure demonstrating the costumes that are on offer to potential contacts. Finally, they will advise the committee on which costumes and in which sizes are needed, based on volunteer demands.”
The main job of the Wardrobe Manager is to look after the costumes that volunteers wear out to events. These costumes need to be accessed easily so forethought is needed for upcoming events to ensure that volunteers are given or can collect costumes prior to the event (or a few days before if not available at the time of the event) and that they are collected back afterwards. To avoid any going missing, it’s important to keep a log as to where they are and ensure they are collected promptly back in after the event, either by returning to the wardrobe or to a committee member. This log should be kept on the Google Drive. This log also helps the Board of Trustees to keep track of costumes.
The costumes must also be kept in a good condition. This means keeping them securely in a warm, dry location and hanging them up/folding them etc. You should also monitor them for signs of damage and make sure the lead volunteer reports any damages that may have occurred so that they can be fixed and if starting to smell or unclean, they are washed.
The Wardrobe Manager should provide feedback to the report every other month to the Board of Trustees. They should also communicate directly to the Board’s Wardrobe and Costume Manager to help work out what costumes are needed and where they can be best utilised.
Finally, if funding should become available, it is important to keep a varied stock of costumes (if funding allows) to ensure popular characters, a range of sizes and genders to suit all volunteers and a range of styles to allow for a dress or trousers if needed. They should be aware of how much money the Chapter House has been budged and work with the committee to identify how best this money can be spent on costumes.
