The Treasurer will control the charity’s funds. It is his/her job to keep accurate, up-to-date records of income and expenditure and to give the finance review at the AGM. These finance records must be shared with the rest of the committee. The Treasurer must organise as many fundraisers as deemed necessary with a minimum of two each year. Finally any requests for funds must be submitted to the Treasurer, cleared between them and the President before being allocated.”

The treasurer must keep track of the charity finances and how the income and expenses work. They are expected to provide their view on what fundraisers we should do and what we can afford to buy. They will work with the President to make sure that funding requests are clear and have their finger on the pulse in terms of money in and out of the chapter . They will also be given a secure tin to store cash.

All money must be kept centrally in the charity bank account in line with the legal requirements and charity law therefore the Treasurer will report directly to the Treasurer on the Board of Trustees. No external or Student Union bank accounts are allowed to be used. Treasurers will be in charge of ensuring the money kept in the chapters float does not drop below £10 or exceed the maximum limit of £30 and all cash is kept in their secure tin. Any money that rises above the amount set in the yearly budget, will need to be banked into the charity bank account. This is likely to be after most fundraisers. In order to help keep the Trustee Treasurer updated, they must make sure the Chapter finance log spreadsheet is accurate and up-to date.

Finally, the Treasurer will need to work with the Fundraising Officer to proactively seek out and organise fundraisers, including paperwork, and support volunteers in their own fundraising schemes. They should be arranged as necessary but should aim to meet the Make a Smile fundraising target of £1000 a chapter per a year.
