Hi coffee lovers! My name is Sophie and I am in the first year of my PhD in Psychology and I would love to be your welfare secretary.

Well-being and mental health are topics close to my heart and research and as your welfare secretary I would love to incorporate these themes into events. I would ensure access requirements are thought of and met for all coffee events, run collaborations with other societies surrounding the topic mental health, welfare and wellbeing. Thinking more systemically, I would also like to invite speakers or other guests to talk about the welfare of people involved in the coffee trade, i.e., farmers, to collaboratively discuss the ethics surrounding our coffee consumption. I think it would be great to also organise fundraising or charity events to give to those in need. Running welfare-related campaigns or getting coffee involved in mental health weeks etc. would also be on my list.

Further, being trained as a listening volunteer with over two years of volunteering experience in mental health services, I will always have an open ear and have a chat with anyone over some coffee x

Fun fact: When I was very little, I used to steal my mum’s coffee mug and sneakily try and drink her coffee.
