Assalam alaikum.
My name is Qulsoom Fatima and I've just completed my first year studying 'Asia Pacific Studies' (alhamdulillah) hoping to become the next Prayer Spaces Sister In Sha Allah. Prayer spaces in general are sacred to the Muslim community as it's not only a place to pray but also a place to socialise with our fellow Muslim sisters. Hence, the responsibility of making sure that the prayer spaces (like the Green Room) on our campus are well-maintained and a comfortable place to socialise, take a break, and of course, to connect with Allah (swt) is extremely important.
I believe that I will do a good job as, before coming to Leeds, I would help out at my local mosque and other events (which I still do help out in) and this (as well as hearing of other happenings across the country) has made me realise even further how important keeping the place of worshipping Allah (swt) well-maintained and comfortable is. If I am elected to become the Prayer Spaces Sister InShaAllah, I will ensure that the prayer spaces on campus are well-maintained for the Muslim community here.
Isoc has played an important role and has made my first year unforgettable: be it through the weekly sisters' halaqahs, the Green Room Iftar or the other events held by Isoc (most of which I attended). I will love the opportunity to give back to Isoc and the Muslim community here as well as the satisfaction of helping to maintain the areas of worshipping Allah (swt) here.

Salaam guys! I'm Aaya, and I'd love to continue the role I had as Prayer Spaces sister this year. Our prayer spaces are our bedrock as Muslim students - even that 10-15 minutes we spend in them is crucial to sticking to our deen during Uni. It would be an honour to serve them in any way I can. 🫡
Inshallah I hope to:

• Work with the union to improve and expand our current spaces, make them more spacious and comfortable. Also, set up a 24/7 anonymous suggestions system so that you guys can let us know what you need without having to hunt us down.
• Complete a full inventory, so that we know exactly what's lacking and what is needed to provide for you
• Keep the prayer spaces directory we produced up to date to help Muslim students always know the nearest prayer space. The locations can get a bit techy.
• Have copies of Abdel Haleem's Quranic translation in each prayer space Inshallah! Hamdulillah, we secured the budget, so we hope to execute it this coming year. The translation has simple, beautiful wording, so it's easy to understand and connect the heart to. It has genuinely transformed my khushuu, so I'd love for everyone to experience that same connection :)

In general, I want to give back to a community that's kept me sane this year. I had a rough start in Leeds and I’d be completely lost without the ISOC. Most importantly, the beautiful people here have kept me on the siraat and given me a big family away from home. In improving the places where we pray, chat, learn, cry and wrestle in, Inshallah we can strengthen our bonds even further.
