As-salamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, my name is Haleema and I am in my fourth and final year at the University of Leeds studying Arabic and Islamic Studies. My first two years of university were not spent on campus due to COVID and my year abroad. This past year, however, I was able to attend ISOC events and experience the comforting and supportive atmosphere of a Muslim sisterhood. In my final year at the University of Leeds, I hope to help create this atmosphere for other sisters as a Social Officer. In this role, I aim to propose, plan and help conduct numerous events for the ISOC sisters, which focus on strengthening sisterly ties and fostering new and long lasting friendships whilst keeping Islamic values, and the cultivation of Islamic knowledge, at the core of the society. In the past year, I attended several ISOC events, helping out with some, such at the university iftars, which opened my eyes to how fulfilling it is to take part in creating a space for Muslims to gather together and form beautiful memories. I believe I will thrive in this role, in shaa Allah, as the key to being a good Social Officer is the ability to not only be approachable and social, but also to foster enjoyable and beneficial social environments. Thanks to the hard work of the committee last year, I was able to create fond memories at ISOC events and form strong bonds with countless fellow Muslimahs. If I am elected to the role of Sister’s Social Officer, I will strive to facilitate a friendly and impactful environment for all sisters who attend social events run by the ISOC this upcoming year.

Assalmu Aleikum all, I am running to be one of the social sisters for ISOC In’Shaa’Allah. Coming to university, I was terrified of starting a new chapter in my life, I didn’t know what to expect and was afraid I wouldn’t find my crowd. The best thing I did during freshers was joining ISOC. I’ve now finished my second year of uni and I can say it’s been the highlight of my entire experience, meeting some of the best people I’ve ever met, forming lasting bonds and friendships and truly growing in my faith in a way I never thought I would. I was someone who didn’t have many Muslim friends in high school and I remember making a dua to have a big Muslim friend group and Alhamduilah Allah answered my duas by allowing me to come to Leeds uni. Now the majority of my friends are practicing Muslims. Your environment and company plays a huge part in your faith and I hope to help Muslim uni students find their people, so that they don’t fall into the traps and sins that uni makes so accessible. In’Shaa’Allah I will work with the other social sister to provide our sisters with fun activities. In’Shaa’Allah your experience with isoc will be as fulfilling as mine has been these last few years. My name is Fatima and I will be a third-year medical student. I am running for social sister in academic year 2023/24.

I found ISOC to be a vibrant community of like-minded individuals working to improve themselves, and offering great opportunities to new students starting at Leeds to aid them in meeting new people and creating life-long friendships. ISOC had given me a sense of comfort at a times when university has felt overwhelming, making genuine friends along the way.

Therefore, I would love nothing more than to be a part of ISOC and help create more social events for others to feel just as included and accepted as I did.

I have augmented my organization and time management skills during my time in sixth form as part of the graduation committee. I worked in teams to create a series of memorable events for my classmates, I hope to do the same as social sister. For example, a fun girls day trip for people to exchange laughs and create memories to last a lifetime!

Being part of this community, I would only hope to make enjoyable experiences and socials for my fellow sisters InshAllah.
