Hi I’m Neve and I am running for Amnesty President! I’m currently on my Placement year working at Basis Yorkshire, a charity based in Leeds who work with women who sex work and young people who are sexually exploited. I study criminology and criminal justice and I am currently on committee as the social media secretary. I am running for president for 2025/2026 because I would like to take on a stronger leadership role within the society.

I’m incredibly passionate about human rights. I am particularly driven by Queer and trans rights, migrant rights and an end to genocide and colonialism, but seeing first hand the injustices of the benefits system, the police, housing etc… (the realities that our clients face every day) at my placement, had made me more passionate about a myriad of other things too!


I think we have done really great things as a society and I’m proud of the successes we have made, however I think we could do so much more. I would like Amnesty to have a stronger profile on (and off) campus and be considered a key voice standing up for injustice in our community. One key part of this is our campaigns. I think we have so much potential to create real change in our campus and university, and even local areas, if we have a more focused and driven goal.

One thing I would like to do if elected president is create a clearer campaign, with achievable goals that we can consistently meet, with the intention of creating real change. More than just fundraising, which is incredibly important as well. It’s also really important for me to include our members in this decision making process, anyone who joins amnesty wants to have an active impact, and I would like to be able to offer that. I also want to collaborate with other societies more, as we are always stronger and louder when united with others who share the same goals as us.

As social media Secretary, I already have a knowledge of being on committee and have ran multiple events as part of that. I have also learnt a lot in my placement about running campaigns and working with external organisations, including Leeds city council and the police.

I would really love to be president and I believe I have the skills to succeed, so please vote for me! : D
