After a challenging summer of gathering committee members in 2023, I took on the role of head coach. Keep in mind I had no previous experience in coaching, all I had to rely on was my own playing experience. I practically did not know how it would all come together and how exactly I was meant to lead player development across 3 ice hockey teams varying in skill, age, gender etc. I took it upon myself to do the most I can for the club. I spent hours educating myself on coaching, planning sessions, developing a relationship with each player in order to guide them in their own personal development. Fast forward to the end of the season and we have two league titles under our belt, along with three teams finishing in the top 3 at nationals, and A team being nominated for most improved team by the university. A lot of work has been done this season from absolutely everyone to get to where we are now. I underwent multiple qualifications such as safeguarding, first aid, level 1 and level 2 coaching, all to expand my knowledge and help me use it to help the club reach greater heights. 23/24 season was a success, but I have even more planned for the 24/25 season. I have faced a lot of trial and error moments with my coaching this year, but eventually developed a system that has worked across the club, and I would not want to throw that away. Instead I want to build on it coming into the new season. I believe this club has incredible amounts of potential, and I will be honored to lead the player development side of it coming into the new season, aiming to reach greater heights. It will not be easer next year, but everything I've learned this year as a coach and player give me confidence coming into the next year. Some of the things I aim to contribute to next year is pushing for introducing a 4th team, organizing a B team varsity/war of the roses, and developing a Women's team that is set on track to compete under their own league in some time. I am very passionate about growing the sport in this country and especially the university, so you know I will not disappoint leading the player development, helping you all become better athletes, teammates and people.
