Abi for Deputy Station Manager!!

I’m Abi and I study Physics, but this past year I’ve been doing a year in industry down south, so you won’t have seen me around :(. Being a very shy 1st year, I stuck to my Science Show Bubble, and with Covid completely taking over my second year, I only managed to branch out to Saturday Brunch (however all 3 of my co-hosts were on committee last year, so I know who I’m coming to for advice)! I really want to forget all my lost opportunities by throwing myself in the VERY. DEEP. END by being Deputy Station Manager!!! I’ve grown a LOT over the last 3 years so I’m more than ready to take on all the socials, conventions, and awards nights you can throw at me!
I think I’d make a good Deputy Station Manager because I’m very organised and good at knowing what’s going on around me - key skills for being Deputy Station Manager. I’m also very quick at replying to emails and messages (perhaps a bit too quick sometimes) so I can clear up queries right away!
This year I’ve been the Secretary of Vodafone’s ‘Future Talent Charity Committee’ where we’ve put on multiple charity events, including a Red Nose Day fundraiser where I took on the role of Project Manager. In my 2nd year I was also Co-Manager of one of the Music Society Orchestras so I know I can handle extra responsibility on top of Uni work! Recently I’ve been volunteering at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in the Media Operations Team – I’ve learnt a lot which will help organising large events and covering Varsity.
My experience means I’m ready to help organise all the iconic LSR events like Transmission, SRAs, Otley Runs, and other Fundraising events; I’m also ready to help the Station Manager and all LSR members in any way possible! I’m keen to learn everything about how this amazing station is run, and what better way to achieve this than as right-hand woman to the Station Manager? I have plenty of ideas for more socials and I’ll do my best to make them inclusive for all!
I’m also keen to investigate how LSR can become more sustainable. I’d like to get as many people involved as possible and have many ideas for how we can come together and create ideas to make LSR the most sustainable student radio:
- Hold LSR Sustainability Forums, where anyone can come and share ideas on how to make LSR more environmentally friendly.
- Start an LSR Sustainability Facebook group where people can share ideas and information.
- Work with people from the Sustainability Service, LUU and sustainability focussed societies.
- Encourage all shows to consider discussing environmental impacts to ensure the conversation is ongoing!
I’d also like to organise a daytrip to the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford. I think this trip would be a lot of fun and help us appreciate all the media that has come before us to allow student radio to exist as it does today!
Overall, I work well in a team and I’d love to get involved with LSR as much as possible because this year has just not been the same without it! Please consider voting for me for Deputy Station Manager, I’ll make sure you won’t regret it :)
