Hey everyone, I'm Barney if you don't already know me. I have been wanting to be a part of this club long before I was a student at Leeds and am extremely grateful that it ran this last year. It has enabled me to become a much better powerlifter and to constantly learn and grow through my journey. Barbell has been extremely important to me in my first year at Leeds and I hope that it will continue to make a great impact on every member, current or future. I want to be a part of that impact and to help grow and improve the club. I will also be training in the Edge next year and so will be readily available for members to come and chat/ask for advice on campus.

Overall, I would like to keep pushing the club to grow and to support all members to achieve their goals the way that they want to. I intend to listen to the wants of our members and do what I can to improve the club for everyone, not just the powerlifters and weightlifters!

I would like to focus more on the promotion of the club on social media. Through more posts about our members and events/competitions such as Northern University Championships and BUCS. I am hoping to use the edge as a place of promotion for the club as it is the gym that many first year’s use. This way we can get more first years promoting our club which will hopefully lead to more people joining even in later years when they see the impact a club like ours can have, on their friends who joined in first year. This will help us further promote the benefits of being a part of our club and awareness of our sports. It will also bring us more income to help fund equipment, travel support and socials.

New competition shirts which have initials on them and possibly slightly different design and have them better fitted. Potentially being able to get a form of sponsorship to help with this. My current hope is to do this through Union Jacked (get their great fitting and their shirts are already Leeds green!).

I aim to make sure that we have a good mix of socials, drinking and sober socials being available is very important to me. Hopefully, we can also provide group trips such as the Sheffield Powerlifting Championships or Expos and try to fund travel for these events. Other events could include group travel to BUCS.

Try to get more training hours in the new strength and conditioning facility for next year by getting in early to get better/more time slots. I would also like to buy more equipment for lifters, such as more power bars. I want to do my best to make this equipment as readily available to all members throughout the week. One way of doing this is by having equipment stored in the Edge for members of barbell to have access to during their workouts.

Hopefully my passion for the sport and for fitness in general comes through my statement well. I would like the opportunity to support those on a fitness journey as best I possibly can. Thank you for considering me for the position of president, and I hope that you vote for me!
