As the name suggests, the main role of fixtures sec is to arrange fixture times throughout the season. This is done by liaising with the BUCS Coordinator at the union, Caitlin Ormiston, who then is in contact with the opposition. There is no need to contact anyone from other universities, this is all done on behalf of you by Caitlin. The majority of fixture times can be arranged at the beginning of each semester when you are sent a list of dates and available time slots on that date. After that it is just a matter of arranging cup matches as teams progress and changing any match times to suit team members better and trying to accommodate for any changes that crop up throughout the term. It is up to you to decide on home match times, and to ensure court bookings are timed correctly to allow for enough warm up time too (be aware of any games played at the Edge as they’re especially good at messing this up so always make sure to double check those ones as I learnt this season!). Away matches are more difficult to alter- if you would like a different time for an away game you can ask Caitlin to request this from the opposition and hope that they offer a preferred time. It’s a good idea to chat to the coaches at the beginning of the semester before arranging home game times as often they have preferred times for their teams to play so they are able to attend too.

Once fixtures are arranged, communication with the transport and umpires secs is required to ensure that buses are booked at the correct times for away fixtures and that umpires of the correct qualification are booked for each home game.
