Dear Squash,
I’m excited to announce my candidacy for social secretary for the next year. A little bit about me, I’m going into second year studying civil engineering and have been playing squash since the sandbox (in other words I’m great at squash). I am determined to go bigger next year with guaranteed socials every week, more joint socials and fun sober socials with new themes and ideas every single week. I strive to be as inclusive as possible to get as many people as possible into the amazing squash community while most importantly continuing to making squash massive. Every Thursday I wake up a little sad because I know it’s a full six days until the next squash social. My love for a Wednesday has reached extreme heights this year, and I would be honoured to use that love to create some cracking nights out for you as your social sec in 2025/26.

I spend a concerning amount of time thinking about squash socials. My list of potential themes is currently made up of around 30 ideas, so if you vote for me you can be sure Wednesdays will stay fresh and exciting. As your social sec, I would make sure the next social is announced well in advance, leaving the weekend as an opportunity to source costumes and mentally prepare for the fun ahead.

I would however make sure squash society remains inclusive to everyone. I hope to run more female-only socials, to make sure the women of squash feel valued within the society and encourage them (us?) to get more involved with the social-side of things. For those who aren’t keen on pints (and for the sake of us pint-lovers’ livers) I would also aim to run regular sober socials including cafe trips, walks in Ilkley, bowling, rock climbing, and a squash run club.

I hope this year I have proved my commitment to squash society, despite my lack of squash-playing ability. I believe my love for Wednesdays and pints, as well as my loud overconfidence, will set me up perfectly to run some unreal socials for you.
