The Welfare Officer is dedicated to ensuring the wellbeing, mental health, and inclusivity of all society members. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, approachable, and committed to creating a supportive and positive environment for students.
As Welfare Officer, you will:
- Promote mental health and wellbeing within the society, organising events and initiatives that focus on stress management, work-life balance, and general wellbeing.
- Be a point of contact for members who may need support, offering a confidential and understanding space to talk or directing them to the right resources (such as university mental health services).
- Organise social events that promote inclusivity, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging among society members, including informal meetups, team-building activities, or relaxation events.
- Collaborate with the university’s wellbeing services to provide workshops, seminars, or activities aimed at supporting students during stressful periods, such as exam season.
- Ensure inclusivity and diversity by advocating for equal opportunities and creating an environment where all members feel welcome and valued, regardless of background or identity.
- Raise awareness about available support networks, both within the society and the wider university, and ensure that information is easily accessible to all members.
- Promote work-life balance by encouraging students to take breaks, manage their time effectively, and participate in non-academic activities.
- Gather feedback from members on their wellbeing needs and preferences, using this information to shape future society activities and welfare initiatives.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment during all society events, promoting respectful and considerate behaviour at all times.
This role is ideal for someone with a passion for supporting others, creating a positive environment, and addressing the wellbeing challenges faced by students. As Welfare Officer, you’ll gain valuable experience in pastoral care, event planning, and advocacy, while helping make the society a more inclusive and supportive place for everyone.
