Hi! I’m Annie Golightly and I’m very excited to be running for the role of web secretary. I’m a first-year computer science student and have been part of the hiking society since I came to university. I knew beforehand that I wanted to join and be able to explore outside of Leeds as much as possible, and I am so glad I did! I have had such a great experience with the club so far and want to help continue this in the future for other students by joining committee.

My aims:
• Continue the great work that has been done by Ben this year to maintain and run the club’s social media and website.
• I would love to post more reels highlighting the weekend trips and showing how much fun we have! I already have video editing knowledge/experience so would enjoy the chance to utilise this to post some longer-form reels. I also want to post reels showing how the Sunday hikes function, giving new members an idea of what to expect to make the hikes less intimidating.
• I love taking photos on the hikes as well as seeing other peoples’ photos, so want to encourage more people to share their photos with each other to be able to post them on the Instagram.
• I want to be a friendly ear to answer queries about the club through the Instagram and direct them to the correct resources as necessary. I’ve been so grateful for how welcoming and helpful everyone has been to me, so want to ensure everyone else experiences this as well.
• The website is a great resource for more information about the club and I would like to update some of the photos to show more recent hikes, as well as adding new reels. This will give people who use the website current examples of the different types of hikes we undertake and how they function. If possible, I would also like to change the format of these to make them easier to see.

Why me?:
• I have become slightly obsessed with hiking since joining the society and want to share my enthusiasm with others, so I will be fully committed to the role.
• I have the right skillset to match this role: technical knowledge to update the website, editing and photography skills to create posts, and communication and people skills to help answer people’s questions.
• In general, I like to think I’m a friendly and approachable person!
• I’m an organised person so will ensure that everything gets posted when it needs to be.
• I’m currently in first year so will be able to bring a fresh perspective to committee as well as more time to commit to the society next year.

Overall, I want to continue to make the society an accessible and welcoming society that people want to be a part of and to help people feel empowered and excited to hike. I really love this club and I would love to be a small part of being able to make it run, so I am pretty much guaranteed to bring enthusiasm and determination to the role. I also do have the slight advantage of being a computer science student, so I know a bit about tech! I'm Oly, I’m a second-year computing student and I’ve spent all my time at uni involved in LUUHC therefore I'm excited to announce my candidacy for the position of web secretary. I've had the privilege of serving as the social secretary for the past year. My journey with the hiking club has been incredibly fulfilling, and I'm eager to continue contributing to its success by seeking your support for the role of web secretary.

Why should you consider voting for me? Firstly, my tenure as a member of this year's committee has provided me with invaluable insights into the inner workings of our club. This means I will be able to provide quick responses to any questions asked on the Instagram or facebook.
If elected, one of my top priorities will be to re-evaluate our social media strategies. After careful consideration, I've realized that our current reliance on Facebook may not be the most effective approach. Facebook's platform has become increasingly buggy, and we're not reaching as many members with our posts as we'd like. As such, I will propose a shift towards focusing on other mediums while still maintaining a presence on Facebook to ensure accessibility for all members.

Additionally, I understand the frustration of creating trip sheets every week. It can be tedious and time-consuming. To streamline this process, I will work on implementing a more efficient automated, method for trip sheet creation. This will not only save time but also ensure that all relevant information is readily available to everyone.

Furthermore, I recognize the importance of ensuring that every member has access to trip photos. Currently, our picture-sharing method can be somewhat haphazard, resulting in some members missing out on memories from trips they were a part of. To address this, I will propose a more centralized and organized picture-sharing system to ensure that everyone can relive the adventures they've been a part of.

In addition to these improvements, I'm committed to keeping our club's online presence up-to-date and engaging. I will regularly post reels of our trips on Instagram, providing a visually captivating glimpse into the exciting experiences we offer. Furthermore, I will be actively monitoring our social media channels to promptly respond to any questions or inquiries from our members.

Together, let's work towards a year filled with exciting adventures, camaraderie, and unforgettable experiences. With your trust and support, I'm confident that I can effectively fulfil the responsibilities of web secretary and contribute positively to the continued success of our hiking club.
